I just downloaded the Google.Photos app to my Samsung 5. How do I remove the Google Gallery app?

Hi Sue, and welcome to Android Forums!

The Gallery is part of the operating system, and you would have to root the S5 to remove it. That comes with the risk of damaging the operating system (if you remove one system element, there is a risk of something else not working properly... like the camera may force close if you try to use it). The camera, to my knowledge, does not automatically upload new images to Google Photos: rather, the phone uploads additions to the Gallery to Photos. Removing the Gallery from the phone completely may botch the whole operation.

A better idea would be to merely remove the Gallery from your homescreen. It would always be available in your app drawer, but you would never have to use it. Just long-press the Gallery icon and drag it to "REMOVE" at the top of the screen. I hope this helps.

It's great to have you here! :)
