    Hi, guys.

I know this is an extensively addressed issue, but I can't seem to find a solution anywhere.

I just bought a Huawei Ascend P6, and at first everything seemed ok, but then I updated to 4.4.2 via OTA and Google Play Store just stopped working. It closes right after opening it.

I've seen many suggestion around and tried some of them, but none seem to work. The phone is not rooted.

Here's what I've tried so far:

    - Clearing Google Play Store data and cache
Sometimes, after doing this, it'll start as if everything was fine, but as soon as I start a download, it closes. It'll force close on startup thereafter.

    - Clearing Google Play Store and Google Play Services data and cache
    Same result

    -Installing the latest version
    No effect

    -Updating Google Play Services
    No effect

-Factory reset (this was done from the phone options, not doing the volume/on-off key combination. Was that wrong?)
    No effect

-Checking if the Android download manager was disable
I couldn't find it in the 'all apps' list nor in the 'disabled apps' list. Every screenshot and video I've seen show the app with the classic green android as an icon, and they have different names ('Download manager' or just 'download'), but all I could find is an app with a different icon named 'download' that seems to be a different thing. I suspected this might be the issue, but then I read that if I could download something from the web (which I can) then that's not the problem.

    -Clearing Google Services framework data
Couldn't find it in the app list

I'd really appreciate if you could shed some light here. Let me know if you need more information.

    Thanks in advance.

Wow. Did you try uninstalling the play store updates? Maybe that would help (crossing fingers).

I did, I forgot to mention that. It didn't work.

I also forgot to mention that after doing the factory reset, there weren't any google apps installed. So I downloaded the latest Google Play Store version (4.9.13) from the web and also the latest Google Play Services (5.0.89). Didn't work either.

EDIT: This is not quite true. Google Play Store was installed, it was the ongle Google app there and did not work.

I'm totally stumped. I'd have thought that Huawei phones would come with all the Google apps preinstalled.

Well, it had only the Play Store installed at first and there were several other Google files missing like synccontactsadapter.apk and synccalendaradapter.apk which I had to download in order to sync contacts and calendar from Gmail. The Play Store worked fine with 4.2, it was after the update to 4.4.2 (via OTA) that it stopped working.

Oh. Well, I know how simple this sounds, and please don't be insulted, but did you try resetting app preferences and the date and time (even if it's already correct).

Don't worry, mrsmumbles, I appreciate your help.

Yes, I tried resetting app prefences and also setting the date and time manually and back to automatic. As I said, I've tried nearly every suggestion out there, I forgot to mention a few of them.

Could it be that some of the Google files and apps that are missing are causing the problem? Through some web searches I've learned that there are packs of Google apps (usually called Gapps) that can be downloaded, but I don't know how to install them. The tutorials I've seen require root access and the ones that apparently don't require root access are extremely complicated, at least for me - obviously I'm no expert in this matter.

It would be of great help if anyone could point me in the direction of a complete guide (preferably made for Android iliterated people like me) for installing this Gapps.

You could try researching this at XDA, they tend to get into complicated things there. I also wanted to mention a lot of people seem to be having issues lately with the play store, and it's possible an upcoming update might fix it, but that's not much help if you can't connect (unless Google pushes it through a browser port or something). Oh, that reminds me, send Google a bug report too. Usually you can do that via the settings or "about" in an app. Sorry I can't be more help.

I made a similar post there, haven't got an answer yet. I'm going to try to root the phone and install Gapps .zip to see if that fixes the problem. Even rooting the phone is hassle, I'm stuck on how to verify if my 'bootloader' is unlucked and installing fastboot, etc.

    Thanks again, mrsmumbels.

That will not help, that will only make things worst
You need to reinstall the stock ROM, because it sounds like a bad update
Or you can install cwmr and reformat system, data, & cache

Thanks for your reply, K Rize.

How do I reinstall the Stock ROM? I found out that my bootloader is locked, can I reinstall the stock ROM or install CWRM with bootloader locked?

I tried rooting the phone through various methods and, according to the programs used, the phone is rooted. However, I downloaded an app called Root checker that tells that it's not. I can navigate through system folders and assign permissions, does that mean I'm rooted? Could I have rooted the phone with the bootloader locked? What's the difference in reformat system, data and cache, and doing a factory reset?

    Thanks
