I downloaded the app. But, I finding it hard how to use it. It is set to automatic. When I move the phone, the "sky" on the app moves as well. My main question being, "Do I point it to the sky or to the ground?"

Both, it will show the other side of the world, as if you were there. consider a straight line thru the earth as you point it to the ground. if you were standing on the other side of the earth you would actually be looking up at the sky. so it reads 360` 3D

Hold the phone vertical, if you "aim" it in the direction of the moon, the moon should show up its approx. position. There is a horizontal line that represent the horizon, anything above that line you should be able to see.

I love this app, but it gets stuck for me. I'll be looking East then decide to check out the Western sky and it moves only a few degrees and not the 180 that I turned.

I have a compass app that has a reset for the internal compass. This used to help, but doesn't seem to do much any longer. I've only used it with GPS enabled and on my home Wifi.

Anyone else have similar results with the Optimus V? I have always just figured it was a limitation of the hard ware of our device.

Wave your phone around in a figure 8 motion to reorient the sensors. Like in the video in this thread. Works for me when google sky gets stuck pointing in one direction.
