    Hi guys,

Just ordered my Galaxy Nexus on Amazon... can't wait!

I'm porting my old ATT number to Gvoice, and getting a new 'dummy' number on VZW.

Anyone else doing this and have Ice Cream Sandwich? How seamless is the integration for voice and txts? I hope I didn't make a big mistake by not just porting my number straight to VZW...

    Thanks!

I moved to a new state this time last year and instead of switching numbers I simply picked up a Google Voice number for my new area. I have had zero problems with Google Voice on this or any other phone. If you want, since you are using the same number you can even avoid fees for text messaging by just using Google Voice too. Just use the Google Voice app for all text.

I think he wants to port his old cell number to voice... I don't know if you can do that...

Texts aren't integrated, but calls are - it's all integrated into your call log.

For texts, you have to launch the Google Voice app to read and respond to them. You do get the menu prompt when you use the texting option from the contacts list, though, to text using GVoice or regular messaging.

This is exactly what I'm doing... so far everything works perfectly-- all outgoing calls go through google voice seamlessly, and text messages come in through the google voice app-- which works just as well as the built in texting app as far as I can tell. This is my first android phone, so I'm not sure what it was like on previous versions, but I can say it's about a bajillion times better than using google voice on a blackberry torch.

Great thanks, that's very helpful. Dabitz/ofthedamned: I do indeed plan on portion my old cell to Gvoice.

One of the neat features of 4.0 is the reply by text to an incoming phone call. So basically this means that I won't be able to use this and have the text emanate from my gvoice number?

OftheDamned: You got exactly what I was going for re: free texting. ATT is cheaper than VZW, and i'm justifying moving over by getting rid of my text plan!

Looks like it wont be totally integrated, but I think I can manage. What do you guys think the odds are that an app or tweak comes out which lets texting be integrated?

There is a dedicated app in the market for Google Voice SMS. It is $1.99. I've never tried it, but it may solve your problem right now.

Would this hook into the default app somehow? (ie., can i response to a call using 4.0's slick pop-up by text and have it go through Gvoice?)

Either way I will find out whenever I get my phone. Not for two more weeks per Amazon...

No this is a completely separate app, but it will give you a dedicated icon/app for text instead of Google Voice.

I think texting under normal circumstances through the gvoice app is perfectly adequate. And a bunch of other text features like texting using voice actions (the Siri equivalent) gives you the choice of sending it through gvoice vs. native sms (and you can set this as the default and it won't prompt you anymore). The only feature I've found so far that doesn't integrate very well is the Quick Response feature when you decline an incoming call, but I'd imagine they'll address this eventually as well. Has anyone found somewhere else that the texting integration isn't seamless?

I have the Galaxy Nexus and I can't get my Google Voice to recieve or send GV calls. My number is sorta ported from my old & current sprint account.

Is something wrong with GV or is it due to sprint's hold on my number?

You have to setup your new cell number with Google voice on the website. It will call you and you will need to enter two digits the site told you to remember.

Has anyone found an app that will display Google Voice SMS popups without using the stock messenger app?

I love Google Voice. But the amount of integration with ICS is the same as it was with Gingerbread.

I just started to use google voice.....I am only using it for voice mails now.....I go sick of having to call, enter, code, pick 1, etc. for each message. Google Voice seems to streamline the whole process.

I use this alongside Google Voice in order to receive and make Google Voice phone calls.
This doesnt deduct minutes from your monthly voice package, since Google Voice alone, no longer allows truly free calls over your data.

On my DINC, I was asked whether I wanted to use Google Voice of Verizon for voice mail. I cannot find how to avoid using Verizon voice mail on the Nexus; any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance.

    Noob question - DINC?

    That said/ notwithstanding:
I have google voicemail by setting verizon to forward all calls to gvoice. Its literally a set of instructions sent via keypad. Go to google voice, hit settings, look for your cell phone and seleft the option to use google voice for vmail. It will the pop up the code to type

Let me know if any issues

Has anyone ever figured out a way to get Google Voice to act as a text messaging portal for all texting? I can send texts out fine, but when someone replies to that text, or texts me, or texts specifically to the Google Voice number, I still get an SMS text through Messaging. I'm trying to cut down on texts that cost money on the bill. (Google Voice texts do not show up).

Download the google voice app on your phone if you haven't (if you havent), and make sure that in the options "send texts to messaging" (or something similar) is unchecked. Also in google voice, go to settings, and you will see your phone(s) and gmail. On your phone, send texts to this device should also be unchecked

You need to go to the Google voice website, add the phone in the setting page and verify it.

This was the right answer -- now that I recall, a friend had the same issue.
