We really need to figure this out. Wallet is working perfectly for me but I'm unrooted. I had planned on rooting this weekend but that means I will have to reinstall everything again. I'm worried that by wiping and reinstalling Wallet that will screw the pooch and I'll get the Element Error. The folks who have this error need to report their steps prior to this. i.e., did you use Wallet and then root. etc? Bunch of smart people around here. I'm sure we can figure this out in no time.

ok, i've tried this twice and nothing seems to happen both instance.

In both instance I opened the wallet app, put in my pin. Clicked on the google card with the $10. Made sure it says default card.
Clicked on the card, shows the $10 remaining, fetches the user id and shows me the last 4 digit of the id.

The first time I wasn't connected so I thought maybe that was the problem. But in both cases, I have my phone on the device for 5-10 seconds and nothing happens.

I was in the same boat as you. I held off rooting because I didn't really see the need. When I read about the element error I really got hesitant. I've been using Google Wallet since I installed the apk after I got the phone. Always worked perfectly, even with a case.

Yesterday I unlocked the bootloader and rooted using the Galaxy Nexus Toolkit (brilliant program!) I forgot all about the element error until after I rooted. When I got everything back loaded up (using the stock ROM) I installed the same Wallet apk and opened it up. It went through the sign-in process and looked like it was gonna give me another $10. But when it did finally get me signed in it loaded the prepaid card with the exact amount I had before I rooted. I haven't tested it since then but I believe the element error would come up when you first open the app if there was something wrong.

I think I read somewhere that the element error is happening to people who installed Wallet with a zip file that was around since Wallet was first released. If you never used the zip file and always used the apk I think you'll be fine. I'm not 100% sure though.

Yup. NFC is checked. wish there was an easy way to test this without actually going through a transaction.

Actually I had the same thing happen to me the first time I tried to use it. It was at a McDonalds, I tried again the next day at a CVS and it worked without a hitch. It could be the paypass terminal.

NFC transmit distance is real short, like 4 inches, also thick cases can reduce it more. I usually put my GNex on top of terminal and hold(i dont use cases)
if that doesnt work u should try with other battery with NFC antenna in it.

    When using Google Wallet;

Open Google Wallet, Enter your pin, Click on the card that you want to use.
^^^ If you do this before you go into the store this will save you some time and the only thing that you will need to do is unlock the phone(wake it up.)

Make sure that you are using the center of the phone when you touch the Pay Pass terminal. Also on the Pay Pass terminal there is a logo that looks like a wave signal, and that is where your cell phone needs to be.

Debit will not work in most cases, so make sure that you request credit from the teller.

I can say that I use the hard shell case that VZW sells with no problems.:)

something odd did happen after that second failed attempt. Google sent me a welcome to google wallet email. So maybe my account wasn't entirely synced up on the server side. Going to try it again at a different cafe and see what happens.

Did you install by flashing the zip or installing the apk? Sounds like that may be the difference.

NOT ROOTED, worked perfect. I went to the link for the .apk from my phone and downloaded it that way and it installed easily (no airdroid or anything). Granted access to install non-market apps and that was it.

Jack in the box (they have the pay pass at the drive thru window) was on google's tab today! The lady at the drive thru said "I didn't know you could do that!". I winked, gave her the deuces, and bounced LOL.

There have been secure element not responding with sole use of the .apk as well.

    Its not just the zip.

Has anyone been experiencing any problems with adding money? Ive tried abot 10 times with different connections for the last 2 days and it still says "not added and try again later"

Hopefully they are not locking us out of the app

Yup. I called them to see what the issue was. I talked to the prepaid card people, they said Google put a lock on my acct, called Google, they said sorry, don't support the Galaxy Nexus , won't help. Unfortunately, you're probably SOL unless you manage to get someone at Google to go against their rules and help you.

Man that sucks! This was one of the reasons of buying the phone was eventually get wallet. Now they are locking us out. I only had $9 left and glad I wasnt one that put hundreds into their prepaid card.

I dont know why Google doesnt support a Google app on Googles phone.

I've talked to google directly. Trust me. They want to. Who do you think is putting this pressure on them? Starts with a "V."

Sprint has already announced Wallet will be fully supported on their Nexus, which is also a 32GB LTE/CDMA Nexus ....

Yeah the guy kept apologizing to me. It definitely seemed like he'd get in trouble if he helped me, but felt bad that he couldn't. He did mention that he realized that if I could get it to work (it sounds like there was an issue with my card verification, so it's not even on Google's end, but once it wouldn't verify, they locked my account out because it might be fraud or whatever) that they wouldn't stop me from using it, but that he personally recommended against it anyway, since he'd had calls from people who had had money disappear, and since they weren't able to help, were basically screwed. I'm hoping at some point we do get official support. :(

How is Verizon blocking the use of Wallet even legal? I own the phone and I don't care that they are developing an alternate NFC method for transactions. That would be like your ISP blocking PayPal because they are developing their own system for secure online payment. Aren't this type of anticompetive business practices illegal?

It is my choice to use the phone and it's hardware anyway I want the same as it is my choice how I use my laptop, car, or any other personal property within the limits of the law and my contract with Verizon. The courts have already stated that it is legal to root the phone and load alternate ROM's. How is this different?

I would think it depends on how they're actually blocking it. We can still install it and use it, so they're not stopping that. I assume Google not supporting it is due to some kind of agreement with Verizon, but we don't know the whole story, I don't think. It's kind of the same as rooting your phone- they're not topping you, but it does still void the warranty. So Google and Verizon aren't stopping us from using Wallet, but they're not supporting it, either.
