Got a unwanted text today! How to prevent it again?
This AMBER ALERT text showed up today on my phone.
Why? Are they sending to all phones.
I don't need a AMBER ALERT text as I see it on TV and in electronic Bill boards on the Freeways when driving.
This is irritating!
You cannot reply back.
You can't prevent it from happening.
There is no provision to block it from happening again.
My wife got it on her iPhone along with several of her co-workers.
:mad::mad::mad:
I don't like this invasion of privacy!!!
This means the government can do whatever it wants.
Recently in Tacoma, WA it was big news when the police were checking text mails without permission!

OK, I finally found where it is in the settings. It's actually a part of the Messaging app. I opened up the Messaging app, then went into the settings for that app. Inside there, there is an "Emergency message settings" section. Now have a few additional questions. The "Emergency Alerts" item allows you to enable/disable different kinds of alerts. I know what the "Amber Alert" item is for (missing child alert). However, what is the difference between the "Presidential Alert" or "Extreme Alert" or "Severe Alert" options?

I'm guessing the Extreme or Severe Alerts would be for Earthquakes, Flooding and such. The Presidential Alert for something like terrorist? BTW, the Presidential Alert cannot be disabled. It is grayed out.

Once again, I answered my own question. ;)
AMBER Alerts and Android and What you need to know

I don't know about completely off topic, but it is being side-tracked to the realm of the socio-political ...and we know where that belongs. ;)

The question how to turn off those types of alerts has been asked and answered. If you want to rant about how annoying they are (and I agree ... turned mine off right away), then might I suggest a new thread in the lounge? OR, if you wish to get into the government agency vs. citizen aspect, or the value or efficacy of Amber alerts, please take that discussion to Politics and Current Affairs.
