The last week or so I've noticed the droid all of a sudden can't find my precise location. I have gps turned on however when I try to locate my position it seems to only be using triangulation to do so and giving me an approximate wrong location with the huge blue circle around it.

    What could be the problem?

I can't tell you what may be wrong, but I can say that this happens to me from time to time as well. Usually, it happens when I'm at work (in a hospital) and I just figure that I don't have a signal strong enough to pinpoint my location.

The Droid's GPS can be flaky sometimes. For example, I just started up GPS Status on my Droid, and at first it showed several satellites within range. But after a few minutes, rather than get a lock, all but one satellite disappeared.

Sometimes it works great and can get a lock in several seconds. But don't rely on it as your only GPS device, because it will let you down.

That's why I have my Garmin. Of course, I don't have a power source for when I'm hiking/biking/etc so I do have to use my Droid from time to time. I usually don't have any problems when I'm outside.

I've definitely had issues with GPS even outdoors and plenty of satellites (according to GPS Status which I recommend). Reactivating via *228 has helped in the worst of my cases where cycling GPS off and on and power cycling the Droid haven't helped.

My Blackberry's receiver never had such issues but it always operated in standalone mode. I have no idea if this matters but the Droid's GPS is assisted, though it should fall back to standalone from what I understand.
