Support GPS Rebooting Issue, Sprint/ HTC will replace with NEW device.

    FYI... I have been having rebooting issues with my EVO 4G anytime I use apps that enable the GPS. After reading numberous forums and threads... initially it was thought that backing up your apps and doing a FACTORY RESET would solve the rebooting problem.
    However; this fix is only temporary... upon my factory reset and reinstallation of previous apps using APP BRAIN, the phone performed great for about 5 days. Then out of the blue I went to use Google Maps and the rebooting started up again.
    Today I called Sprint Tech support... the GPS rebooting is a known issue with both Sprint and HTC. The problem is with the "internal" software on the device. I specifically asked if an OTA update would fix the issue, and the answer was NO.
    For the time being, Sprint is offering "a new replacement" unit (not refurbished) OR giving an additional 30 Days for return and cancel.
    I further asked if I could reqest a "WHITE" EVO for the replacement. Unfortuneately, BEST BUY is currently the only location offering it. Not sure how long it will be exclusive to Best Buy?
    So I had the option of Sprint sending me a "Black" replacement, however it could possibly be 4-6 weeks. The tech actually said you would probably be better off going back to my point of sale... cancelling the contract. Then going to Best Buy and getting a "WHITE" EVO... and HOPE that the this unit does not have the same issues.

    All of that being said...
    1. Sprint/HTC has been aware of this issue since EVO Release.
    2. Its not in every unit, nor have they have isolated it to a particular build, lot, or batch. (basically is random luck if you got a bad phone or not). So even if you get a replacement, it may have the same problem.
    3. If you are within your 30 day contract, DEMAND a replacement with a 30 Day extension to cancel. OR cancel and get another phone...

    I hope this information is helpful to some of you....

    I believe my unit (my 2nd already/hardware version 3) is exhibiting this issue starting today. Everytime I have gone into a GPS enabled app, it reboots. I'm glad I saw this thread. My patience is wearing thin already with this crap.

    what are some of the apps you guys are using when this issue occurs, if you don't mind me asking ?

    Google Maps, Yelp, etc. Anything that triggers a GPS lookup.

    Got the msl code...sprint nav is now working great...no reboot (so far)

    Ditto...got the MSL code from Sprint and no issues so far. Will report back after a few days with status.
