This guide is for LG Optimus V running Froyo 2.2.1

This is the most straight forward guide to rooting/kernel flashing/overclocking your LG Optimus V you will find. I learned all this in one night of research, but I imagine most non-tech people are having problems with these procedures as the info is so spread out and horribly explained throughout the web. Follow it to a tee, don

ClockWorkMod Recovery is not the best recovery for the "V". Xionia recovery has more options and is better suited to the "V" OS. It will allow you to get yourself out of way more self inflicted problems than CWMod can. I personally think that the Harmonia ROM, the Bumblebee ROM, and the new CM7 port:BACKside ROM (CM7) + Green Machine Theme, all currently being supported and suited for the "V" should be included in your list,as well as the download locations for all said ROM's and Recovery's. This would give the member's of this forum a better overall picture of what supported( which means improvements and fixes to problems) ROM's are best for the "V" as well as the best Recovery. Plus ROM Manager is very incompatible with the "V", even though they did add the "V" to there Recovery list. The only thing I even use ROM Manager for is to manage my ROM backups with out having to go into recovery mode. To many member's were having all kinds of problems with ROM Manager and ClockWorkMod recovery. Boot looping being the most common, which only Xionia has the option to fix.The Gingerbreak apk(the best "Nuub" proof method because it wont mess up your phone if you don't get it right the first time) does not install the needed flash_image that should go in the /system/bin,this needs to be done with command prompts(from a PC or terminal emulator on the phone),you should include the correct flash_image download location as well as the instructions for installing said flash_image.It does not install Busybox as well, but that can be found in the market. You should include instructions for properly installing Busybox as well. They will need to update SuperUser from the market. Also when in recovery mode before installing a ROM you should Always backup your existing ROM first before you do anything else, then wipe cache partition, Then in advanced section,Dalvik cache,Back to main menu, wipe data/factory reset, then go to mounts and storage and format boot, system, data, and cache, back to main menu and install zip from sdcard, then choose zip from sdcard. You must take the ROM zip out of the download file and move it to the root of your sdcard prior to going into recovery(not in any file, just down near the bottom of the list of files somewhere) if the install is going to have complete success. If the ROM requires the Gapps(google apps)to be installed(they get put the same place you put the ROM zip),then after install of ROM is complete then go back to choose zip from sdcard and install the Gapps. After install of everything is complete choose reboot system now. Allow extra time for the new ROM to boot up the first time. Choose the market app and sign in to your google account and let it sync... If you did everything right you can now enjoy your new ROM.....If you(openminded) were to include these very things then you would have a truly complete guide(this means no room for the confusion that can lead to disaster for some of our newer members).

I agree 100% with Andyopie. Go here for Roms and stuff. Here for recoveries. I got caught up in the whole rom manager thing when I first started flashing... never again. It may be great for other phones, not the 'V'.
Remember, the recovery is the foundation for the rom. Without a good foundation... well lets just say it's called 'recovery' for a reason!! ;)

BTW, the xionia vm recovery is the recommended one for the 'V'.

There ya go andy, Why don't you create a "newbie" proof installer instructions. ;) Without rom manager of course. Personally I use romtools. It even comes with the drivers and will root the phone and everything. I haven't used gingerbreak so I can't comment on it. I'll help compose if you like. Newbie instructions from newbies!!
I know there's a ton of instructions out there... But with new people joining the mod scene everyday, Sticky's from smart people kinda get lost in the newbie translation. It's easy for us to flash a rom now... but remember our first time??

Like I state clearly in the title, it's a very simple guide for people having trouble sifting through all the poorly explained info throughout the web, kind of like your reply. I never claimed it was a complete guide, just an easy to follow one. Although I appreciate your feedback, instead of pointing out all of the things I didn't include, why not use your time to create your own helpful guide.

It was not my goal to point a finger of blame or shame, merely to keep newer members from making gigantic mistakes because of all the holes(things you had left out)that were in your thread. When you stated and I QUOTE"Follow it to a tee, don't ask questions and you wont have one hiccup" that put the burden of responsibility smack on you if anything were to go wrong. Not only was I trying to keep the newer members from messing up there phones due to the lack of adequate and complete information. But I was trying to save you from the legal ramifications that you could incur because of the Inadequacies of your information and the boldness of your statements.... When you post a thread with information that could in some way damage a members phone(through no part of are own) and not warn them of the risks involved, and even go so far as to make the bold statement that you did, then its is your responsibility and obligation to provide every piece of information necessary to insure that they will be able to accomplish that which you have claimed,or risk the possible legal actions that could ensue. So you see, all I was really trying to do is save everybody a whole lot of headaches and heartaches. I apologize if you took the information in my post the wrong way, but, it all had to be said for the benefit of all the members including YOU.

I'm thinking about it,but my knowledge on the subject needs to be a little more complete than it is right now. When it is, I will certainly look forward to such a great undertaking (if someone hasn't beaten me to it).EDIT: I didn't know anything before I joined this forum.I was a "Nuub" not just with smart phones, but with computers and DOS and permissions and everything. So you see I got a ways to go before I can confidently lay down a thread of that enormity.

OMG thank you for saving me from legal ramifications. Hey did you know you were on the internet? Even more, your on a random information forum, try at your own risk is implied to anyone without down syndrome. I can see it now, "I'm gonna sue him cause he told me to do something on the internet and I listened". I stand by my "bold" statement kid, I've been running my brand new Optimus V for over a month now without a hiccup using the above methods. Did you try my method? No, you didn't so stfu and quit scaring people into not trying it because it doesn't coincide with your methods/dipshit logic. Get back to me if you try it and have a problem. Damn, my stomach hurts from laughing at your legal ramification comment, thanks for that!

wow. it isnt obvious that someone started a second profile just to troll. Openminded if you really were openminded then you would have seen andys post as a suggestion and nothing more. you wouldnt have started this argument. andy has been very helpful on these forums and has seen what people do to their phones and helped them fix it for a while now. that is where he gets his background and why i understand why he would say what he did. to andy: you should really make guide because asadulla hasnt updated his in forever and i doubt that he still checks this forum
