So I'm trying out new apps and such for my Droid, and I've seen more than a few people on here use Handcent sms, and I saw that it has speech to txt, which intrigued me. So I'm trying to customize it, and I've seen pictures where people have a background image behind the txt bubbles. I've tried to do this, but it will only give me a SMALL square image in the background instead of a full screen sized image. What am I doing wrong?

I am having the same problem. I would like the picture to take up the whole screen, but its just a small square in the middle. Maybe it is just because we have Android 2.0 and they haven't worked out all the bugs for the Handcent version for us yet. I also can't sync my facebook photos for my contacts in Handcent. Other than that, the app is really cool, anyone have these features work on the Droid?

yeah, I too have noticed that the facebook images don't carry over into handcent. I found that to be a little weird though. I would think that android would just attach a copy of that image to the contact info so that it could be accessed by all applications, but I guess not.

Could be the android 2.0 cause I have a image on my handcent background and don't have this issue but I am running 1.5

somewhere in the options there was a choice to restore default options I think that I used to just go back and then apply a grey background color, which I am using for now.

    did you try that?

I think that when this thread was created, the problem was originally due to the fact that the dev hadn't updated Handcent SMS for 2.0. I had tried Handcent before it was updated for my Droid but uninstalled soon after when I realized it didn't grab pictures from Facebook like the stock app did so I never played around with the background settings.

However, when they updated it, I started using it again and haven't stopped and the background image works for me so I think it should work. I'm probably covering stuff you already know but I know it took me a while to figure it all out (there's almost too many options lol)

Settings -> Bubbles setting -> (Under "Background setting" do the following)

    • Select "Use picture"
    • "Select picture"
    • DESELECT "Use Theme Style"

That should get it to work. Let me know if it doesn't. If you want to change the background of the conversation list, it's pretty much the same, you just don't have to deselect the "Use Theme Style".

i tried that but after you said the same thing i thought i would try again and the first time it still didn't work. Just before i gave up i tried another picture and guess what, it worked lol. so i guess it only supports certain formats or maybe picture sizes idk

For me too, it works fine on Android 1.5.

Ok guys it works for me perfectly fine on my Eris. Here is what I did: go to settings, (my conversation style is android btw) bubble setting, reset, set BOTH sent AND recieved sms background colors with their transparency all the way to the right, then unclick "use theme style", then select "use picture", then select your picture! I hope this works for you guys, it works great for me! I have the pic below as my background with white and light blue text. :)
