Handcent SMS - Tons of problems

So Handcent SMS has been one of my favorite apps. But an update in late August, the program has become unstable. Another update which I avoided in early September, appears to have made it worse.

No reply from Developer, no updates now for several weeks.

I'm *this close* to giving up on it. Anyone have any additional insight and if not, what is the best SMS program out there?

Just curious, what happened? I use Handcent, and it refused to send a 27K mms.
Even on 2G that should have gone. I resize my own pics for mms, so I know what size it was.
Re-enabled Chomp, and message went in a flash, so it wasn't carrier or phone.

Had a few other problems, too.

Handcent released a bad update. And then another one. So far no fix available. VERY disappointed.

Define unstable. Force closing? So far no problems whatsoever that I have encountered.

Read the comments on the play store. Force closes, messages won't send, pictures won't download. All my customizations lost. It's just a mess.

I've been using Handcent for over 3yrs now and the only problem that I run into is sometimes pictures, even after resizing them, takes along time to send or doesn't send at all. Another thing I've noticed is when sending the same text to multiple people at once, I keep getting an error message when trying to send. I have to go into just one of the messages and resend for it to go thru.

Every time they push an update, it loses all my customized notifications. Drives me BONKERS.

Seems like such good program for such a long time...and now suddenly...horrible updates and no reply at all from development. Last update was Sept 12 despite tons of bad reviews in Play Store. Not sure what is going on.

Maybe they can't replicate your issues? I mean everything the bad reviews mentioned hasn't happened to me, and I'm on the latest version. But then hey, if you're not happy with it, you can always try something else.

I am having the same problems with pictures on Handcent. I cannot download pictures that are sent to me. I get the message "Handcent running in the background". If I go to Messenger and download the pictures, I can then see the pictures in Handcent. The background message will also disappear at that time.

Just got an update. Crossing my fingers that the problems have been addressed.
