Has anyone tried to turn off auto retrieve for mms on the stock sms app and turn it on through Handcent? It seems pointless to have two programs auto retrieving mms messages. Does anyone know if this would help battery life?

I have been using Handcent and can't figure out how to turn off the stock sms app either. Very annoying to have double notifications.

I BELIEVE "auto retrieve" automatically retrieves your sms and mms messages from the network.

I have everything unchecked in the stock messaging app since i dont use it at all.

However, i dont know about saving battery since if you retrieve the message in Handcent, open the stock messaging app, the message is there and has already been downloaded.

I think all messages are downloaded once... and then can be viewed on any messaging app. So it shouldn't really make a difference.

Open the app, then hit MENU - SETTINGS- and uncheck everything

rsambuca, there's a thread on how to do that.

To turn off notifications, go into the stock app, click settings and uncheck the notifications box.
