Why is it that thee buttons at the bottom of the phone sometimes light up and sometimes doesnt?
Is there a way to make them always stay on when the phone is on?

I believe that they light up based on how dark it is in the room/outside. As for keeping them on all the time, I haven't found any settings dealing with the backlight. Of course, I've only had my Incredible for about 15 days so I could be missing something.

They turn off when the screen turns off. If you're in a well lit environment, it keeps them off to save power (since you can see them anyway.

there really should be a setting for this somewhere.
quite a few times i couldn't see the keys and had to cover the sensor to get the light to come on.

Lafester,
Where is the sensor that you covered?
It is many times where it was too dark for me to see the keys.
Thanks for all the replies.

Whether or not the touch buttons light up or not is completely determinate via the light sensor in the top left corner of the front-face of the phone (left of the Verizon branding). Cover that, and the keys should light up. Shine light on it and they will not.

Thanks Epiphany. I will definitely try that next time.
