So I ordered a xoskins scratch protector for my droid. It should be here today or tomorrow so my droid is naked right now. Has anyone been able to scratch their gorilla glass? Someone was saying sand can scratch it, but I can't find who said that...

You're definitely right, several people here have had their screens easily scratched by sand. I can't think of the thread name off the top of my head :p

Sand will scratch pretty much anything. Until they figure out how to cover our phones with a transparent layer of diamond, something will be able to scratch them. I've not scratched my screen yet, but I don't keep it in my pocket that much either. It's usually on my hip in it's holster. I do occasionally put it in one of my cargo pockets, depends on where I'm going to be.

Mine has been naked since the day it was born(morning of release). I do not have any scratches. I live inland, so I do not encounter to much sand. My Droid always gets its own pocket, no keys or pens etc.

I tried the screen protector that my wife wanted and used for a while, I did not like the feel as much as the bare glass, only advantage I saw was that the plastic was less smeary.

I scratched the screen of my 2-month old Droid when I laid it face-down on my desk to put the battery cover back on. I have no idea what scratched it, but it's deep (you can feel it with a fingernail) and about 1/2" long.

i've scratched 2 screen. my freakin keys won't scratch it, but i'm pretty sure pocket lint will. it must be wool or something. i know sand will. SNOW will (call ripley's) , "gritty" stuff seems to do the job.

Agreed, I have a half of dozen small scratches and I don't live in a sandy area. Also wife now has 1000 micro scratches (Very very fine) all in the top 1/8 of the phone turns out after much hunting to be caused by her ear rings.

my phone didnt have a scratch until it fell off my couch onto a set of weights now i have a very light scratch... i still am not into screen protectors because I feel it hinders the touch screen sensitivity

I scratched mine while in my pocket, as others have said it must have been sand in the pocket lint or something. Luckily mine were small and not on the viewing area. I got a screen protector just to be safe.

Small scratch but not noticeable unless I'm really looking for it. Sand will do it but otherwise the screen is very resistant. I've tossed my Droid around and left it in my pocket since late November and still just have the one tiny scratch.

Just got my 2nd refurb replacement. I didn't scratch it, but it came w/ 1 very small scratch in the screen. It's not noticeable when the screen is on, so I'm not going to bitch about it. I'm gonna keep using it naked, like I did w/ my original. Naked is the best, of course.

See a "Screen Scratch" poll here.

Last I checked, about 97% of respondents had minor or no scratches.

I'm guessing a few of you could push that number down now.

Almost 2 months of owning my Droid, no case or screen protector, no scratches yet. I handle the phone quite a bit as well, dropped it a couple times (on carpet), and just store it in my pants pocket. Aside from a little dust in the speaker grill, still looks brand new.
