no scratches, i have a zagg invisible shield on. it's great and all but i would not recommend it again. the tacky feeling takes away from the great feel of bare glass. i would recommend a hard screen protector, one that is smooth and slides well.

Not fraud at all. They will replace the phone whether you lose it, destroy it or toss it in the lake. You pay the deduct. and they send you a phone. Catch is you can only do it twice a year I think....

If that's the way you want to look at it then I can go push my truck into the lake so I can get one of those new Chargers? Or burn my house to the ground so I can build a new one on the east side of town?

Agree with the "tacky" feeling but it does go away after a while. The thing I don't like is I've noticed a few minor bumps/dings in the zagg which are driving me crazy (ocd) I'm thinking of ordering a replacement and putting a new one on but I don't want to have to deal with the new zagg and it's sticky feeling again. All in all, it's better to have a screen protector that's dinged up instead of my screen

I don't think the screen would scratch easily but I figure why not give screen protectors a shot for ease of mind. I got Steinhil Crystal Clear and it really does look like I have nothing on. I def recommend against anti-glare or anti-fingerprint kinds... they make it look all grainy. It feels a little smoother to swipe too.

The screen scratches quite easily. I wasn't using a case, and it slipped in between the car seat and center console when taking a turn, and huge scratch. I use a case now. that phone ended up speaker blowing so I guess I lucked out on that one. but I still don't use a screen protector just a case. and I'm just careul but putting nothing besides the phone in the pocket.

Nobody has abused their phone more than me. It rides bareback in my pocket with no case or screen protector and I do not have a single scratch on it. I even demonstrated to friends its inability to get a scratch with a fork and knife, of course I didn't apply much pressure, im not a moron.

I used to have an InvisibleShield until my Fiancee dropped it while trying to turn off my 4:30am alarm. The Shield got a big nasty mark across the entire screen so I removed it.

I liked it naked so much I never even ordered a replacement. I'm going on about 2 months now naked and I love it (scratch free)

I'm not sure I'm clear on exactly what got scratched here? Or what you're encasing now? :p

Sorry for digging up an old post, but my issue seems to fit well under the original inquiry raised by the op since my screen has certainly been scratched! My screen has small hairline scratches all over the upper left and lower left corner (when looking at the screen). I have no screen protector, but this thread is not about screen protectors so please do not advise me to get one. I consider myself to be very careful with my phone. It's never been dropped, and when not being used it spends the majority of its time in a holster or "dedicated" pocket (with no other items). I stopped using the holster because I thought it was causing the problem, but new scratches continue to appear in the same area. My wife has the "same" phone and has never seen a scratch.

The only conclusion I can draw at this point is that my "5-o'clock shadow" is causing these scratches! I am right handed, and the area where most of the scratches appear is where the phone typically makes contact with my face. I realize how crazy this sounds, but I have been observing these scratches get worse and worse over the past few months, and nothing seems to stop the spread or indicate any other cause...

I know that everyone loves some good pictures, so I've captured a few that really depict this issue (see below).

Finally, if it is truly the contact with my face that is causing these scratches, I consider this to be a manufacturer defect with my phone. Clearly the batch of glass that I got is not as hard most Inc owners (and I certainly hope that this is not the Gorilla glass I've heard so much about). I've owned a BB Pearl and BB Storm 1 prior to the Inc, and have never experienced this.

Anyone else with a similar issue?

I've never heard that the Dinc has Gorilla Glass. Mine (Droid X) has been confirmed that it uses Gorilla Glass, and I use mine exactly as you do (no protector). Never had a scratch. But if your beard is indeed the cause of the scratches then I would agree that it is defective.

It really can't (ok, it MIGHT possibly scratch a plastic/rubber/silicone coating on the glass, but I'd doubt that very much).

Think about it this way, if it's doing that to glass, what would it do to clothes and skin?

Ok, anybody can do whatever they want to their phone, but I don't get why you won't consider a screen protector. Granted that's your business, but that seems like the obvious solution.

The most likely cause is dirt/sand getting in the pocket you keep it in (that's in general, not based on your particular scratches). You don't routinely roll around sand dunes before making phone calls, do you? That might explain things (sand gets on your face, to your phone, where it gets rubbed into the phone in the pocket).

Anybody know what type of coating is on top of the glass?

I use the Steinheil Crystal Clear screen protectors. What I really like about them is the feel. They are very smooth and dramtically reduce fingerprint smudging. The downside to them is they do scratch easier than many tougher protectors. Even though they get some small scratches they do prevent those scratches from scratching the phone screen. I've tended to replace mine every 3 months. at $10.99 for 2 the smudge reduction alone is worth it for me.

By any chance do you wear glasses? I've smacked my case by the volume buttons several times on mine at night after I pop out my contacts.

Nope, no glasses. Still a mystery to me, but I do feel as though my screen must be somehow more prone scratches than most. I can only state this based upon my usage and care of the device coupled with feedback that I've seen from others about no scratches on their naked Inc.

There is no way facial hair caused that. I only shave around once a week (hey.. it dries my face so I hate hate hate to shave) so I always have stubble and my screen has never done that. In fact my face has not scratched anything, all it does is annoy my girlfriend sometimes but does no harm :p Do you set your phone down much at all on its screen side? Or do your pockets have a metal lining or something? No idea what can cause that...

A couple months later and still a perfect screen. No reason at all to use one IMO.

Mine has 1 scratch about 1.5mm long pretty noticeable. Also I have 1 other scratch that is hardly noticeable at all you really have to hold it in the light a certain way to see it. I've dropped my phone a couple times and slid it across desks and stuff though so I'd say it has held up pretty good.
