    Hey guys.

I was previously on the official release for 4.0.3 for SGS2. My update was an OTA and I'm not sure if my phone is sim-locked or not, it has no branding on it but it was bought from mobiles.co.uk (a company owned by Carphone Warehouse) and the SIM inside is a T-Mobile. This may or may not matter.

I cannot remember the exact specifications of the update to the kernel etc but I downloaded the XWLA4 insecure kernel and I remember the start definitely being XW and maybe XWL, also pretty sure it ended in a 4.

I now cannot get past the boot screen, with a secure kernel or without. I can get into download mode so I imagine I can get this working again.

Now it's over to somebody useful - I hope you can help me with my problem!

    Thanks in advance.

Hmm, a T-Mobile sim card in an international phone. It's been done before! It's international right? Go to Settings ->...oh right won't boot, umm open the phone up and take out the battery. You'll see Model: then some letters and numbers. If it doesn't say GT-I9100 or very similar then you cannot use XW firmware. Let me know what it says.

It says GT-I9100 on the sticker. Please remember I am from the UK.

    Thanks for your response too.

I'm assuming that you're trying to root the handset?

Have a read of this Rooting Guide and see if following it rectifies the issue. In the meantime I'll move this to the All Things Root sub-forum so that it's seen by others with experience of the procedure.

The reason that your phone won't boot is because xwla4 is gingerbread and you're on ICS. Don't worry though its easy to fix.

There hasn't been an ics release for Tmobile so you have an unlocked phone. Since you upgraded ota you would've had the xwlp7 firmware.
So flash this cfroot kernel using the guide Slug gave you above and your phone will boot

Nice spotting Shotty, I completely missed the LA4 bit!
