General HDMI output sucks. Can't get DLNA to work either?

The HDMI converter provided with the phone has a horrible connection. It doesn't make good contact with the micro-usb socket on the phone, and will continually disconnect itself unless I apply pressure holding it with my hand in a certain way... Then when it does connect, the display on the TV looks pixelated. Is there a better usb-hdmi converter that will provide a stable connection? Also, howcome the output resolution is so low. I know the phone is not 1080p, but is there a way for the phone to display 1080 or even 720 out? I tried LCD Density app, but even with that it's output looks the same.

On a side note, I can't figure out how to get the phone to find or be found on a Samsung TV with DLNA while connected to the same wifi network. Am I missing something, I read the instructions which seem extremely simple and straight forward, but provided me with absolutely zero results. Does image quality improve through DLNA over the HDMI cable?
