Help Headphone Jack Issue

Hi, have read through previous posts regarding the issue with sound only from one earpiece/stereo speaker. The solution seems to have been to replace the headphone jack.
I have now tried this with two different replacement parts without success so have assumed the problem lies elsewhere. Does anyone know whether this could have been caused by upgrading to 4.3. I cannot definitely say that the problem only arose after I upgraded, but I am now at a loss on how to fix it.

Do you have a music player like PowerAmp with a balance control? Im just thinking, if you play music through the phone speaker, turn the balance full left then full right, if one direction makes it go much quieter or silent than the other direction, maybe it will narrow things down.... somehow lol

Hi, haven't got a music player with the balance option, but could download one.

However, after a bit of 'fiddling' I have found a position with the jack no-where near fully inserted (just about where it first meets some resistance) that gives a feed to both earphones - I sometimes have to jiggle it a bit.

I'm now wondering whether I haven't made the connection from the new earphone section to the motherboard properly. I'll pull it apart again and have a look although I would have thought that the most likely scenario of incorrect fitment would have been no sound at all!

Cheers

If you're getting proper sound by not fully inserting the jack into the plug, it makes me think this might be a matter of an older 3-contact headphone jack being plugged into your phone's newer 4-contact jack. Are there three or four contacts on your headphone jack? It might simply be a matter of the two (plug and jack) not being compatible, the contacts just don't line up with each other when the plug is pushed in all the way.

Hi, this was with the supplied headphones which have a 4 contact jack. I tried with an old 3 contact jack to see what happened and got the same result but not having to 'jiggle' it!!!
At a bit of a loss to understand what is happening, but will try re-attaching the connector to see if it is incorrectly aligned.

What happens when you do what you did, just making first contact is that youre getting Mono output, so the same signal through each ear instead of slightly different signals to give depth to the sound. That happens on any music device mate broken or not
So from that we cant tell if its a software or hardware problem

Thanks for that Funky, I just downloaded the trial version of Poweramp, and the speaker is working fine when I move balance fully between left and right, so I assume the jack must be the issue.
