I am really bummed that more phones coming out without the headph jack port.
I have started looking for a USB Type-C to 3.5mm headphone jack adapter - but why do they all have a cable in the middle? I would prefer a simple one piece "stick."

Are there any new phones coming out this Fall with the headphone jack that is not in the phablet size? I am up for a new Verizon ph end of Sept.

If you're with Verizon, from what I've read you might be limited to whatever it is devices that they supply or approve for BYOD.

I'm in China myself, and so far only device I've actually seen in a store that doesn't have regular headphone jack is the iPhone 7.

I wouldn't buy a USB-C to 3.5mm adapter without making absolutely certain that it is compatible with the particular phone. Although there is a USB-C audio standard it doesn't seem that all of the manufacturers are implementing it properly, because these adapters often don't work with different phones.

As for why they all have a cable, probably because it would be quite a long rigid stick coming out of the bottom otherwise. These things are active components: they contain a small circuit board with a DAC and amplifier on it, the audio components that have been removed from the phone (since the phone is only outputting digital audio and these things are to convert that to an analogue signal for your headphones), so it can't be shrunken down to just the jack itself sticking out of the phone.

I'm afraid I don't know what Verizon offers (not American), so can't advise on that. The new Sony's do, but Sony phones aren't big in the US so I don't know whether VZW will carry them. LG and Samsung still have it, but their recent announcements are phablets (of course their smaller phones from earlier this year are still available) At this moment in time it's actually only Motorola and HTC who have removed it, plus newbies Essential and a pretty strong rumour that the next Pixels will also lack it. The rest of the big Android manufacturers still have it (and probably lower-end phones from some of those I've named still do too). How that will look in a year's time is harder to guess.

I was looking forward to the new pixel and may still if the rumors are wrong and that it will have the HP jack. I like the Motos but it seems their top end line (z force?) does not have the jack but their mid level phones will. The lg v30 may be my first choice, but its a bigger phone then i prefer. With these big phones and a quality case, how is it to fit comfortably in a shirt or jeans pocket. Guess the man purse to make a come back?

Oh and im not buying the adapter yet. Just started looking into this - i like planning ahead.

I would always want to handle a phone myself before buying. I'd love the V30 to be useable one-handed by me, but realistically the specs say it will be too big (it's that, rather than pockets, which puts me off phablets, but I reckon that shirt pockets will not be good, jeans back pockets probably ok unless you like bulky cases).
