When then auxiliary is plugged in with my car stereo, I would typically use the speakers and the handset microphone for a cheap hands free alternative. With this phone it seems to disable the mic when anything is plugged into the auxiliary jack.

    ****EDIT****

After further testing, it would seem that is only the case in the phone app. So for all intensive purposes, this is an okay solution:

    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Dynex%26%23153%3B+-+Microphone+Headset+for+Select+Music+Mobile+Phones/9535327.p?id=1218120537083&skuId=9535327&st=dynix%20microphone%20aux&cp=1&lp=1

In a perfect world, they will fix the phone application. Meanwhile, we can use this low cost alternative for our ghetto handsfree options =). The mic isn't perfect, but the person you are calling won't complain. You just come across a little muffled but not enough to care. I hope this helps someone keep the phone! It did me.

And to keep HTC informed, I started a thread here yesterday:

    http://community.htc.com/na/htc-forums/android/f/107/t/10161.aspx

I did the empty threat message hoping for a fast response, ignore that. I love this phone.

It's a bit simpler than that. It seems to ONLY be the case in the Phone app. Since it's a phone, well, you know...the main feature =P.

It apps with voice chat or things like Ventrilo via Ventriloid, the mic still functions with something plugged into auxiliary. (Be it a headset or to your car stereo).

I have messed around in options, can't really find anything. Perhaps something that can be addressed by the rooting community later on. I just want to know if others have tested or experienced this? It is a tad bit annoying for me.

I would like to know how it functions in the car dock. If it works there or what not. They were sold out of those at my verizon store.

The phone definitely knows you have headphones (as opposed to a headSET) plugged in. I've set up Tasker with different profiles for headphones/line out vs headset (full volume for line out, 1/3 for headset)

I tested the included voice recorder app (yay!), and it works fine using the built-in mic, even when headphones are plugged in.

Hopefully this will get fixed in the next software update... is there any way to report this as a bug to HTC?

I'm not sure, this is my first HTC device. I noticed that it was only the phone app as well, but now i am wondering if it may work while mounted in the car dock. Maybe that makes it see is a line in instead of headphones? Not certain.

I have the car dock and it has the same problem, its drriving me nuts. When everything is plugged in, I get a call while listening to slacker radio and try to answer but they can't hear until I switch to speaker then I have to listen to my phone speaker. I've tried all the speakerphone apps to no avail. Sure hope there's a fix and I'm not interested in rooting. I bought the phone because I like sense ui. My Dinc was flawless but screen was too small. Might have to get Dinc2.

Yea, I tried to not let it bother me...but it is really bothering me. It should be an easy fix one would think. I just have idea where to mention this to HTC at.

Yes, this is happening to me, too, and also in the car dock. I just did a test, and the mic works a little bit but you have to almost shout. I really was hoping to find a setting here on the forums, as I'm not interested in rooting either.

The only workaround I can think of is to hit "speakerphone" when I'm using the phone in the car. That seems to override the mic disabling. But of course the sound will then come out of the phone, not your car speakers :(

Well good news if you don't mind spending 9 bucks.

    This solution works:

Dynex™ - Microphone Headset for Select Music Mobile Phones - DX-MP3MA

You can just use the tiny 3 inch cable and your normal aux cable or the included one. It isn't the BEST mic in the world, but not annoying either to person listening. It sounds just a tad bit muffled because of the cruddy noise cancelling but....like I said, it's a decent solution until the software is fixed. I am going to update my main post with this tip. I love this phone and am just glad I found an alternative!

Also I started a complaint thread here, if more post it might help!
