I upgraded to the Thunderbolt from the Storm 2, and I was just checking the fitment of the charger and was surprised to see it works. I was gonna buy a car charger for the bolt but now I don't have to. Just thought I would share.

Most of the newer BB phones I've seen have a Micro USB charger. You can buy the cable from any online tech retailer for dirt cheap.

Micro USB is the new standard of chargers. BB signed on with the European consortium two years ago to conform to this standard (with Nokia and a few others). So yes, the BB's charger fits the T-Bolt's charger.

Yep. I was stoked to know I did not have to buy yet another car charger.

I was using an older BB micro usb car charger for my storm (i think it was sold for use with a pearl), anyway.. are all micro usb chargers the exact same?? Is there any risk at all using these to charge our thunderbolt batteries?

I can not answer you about the risk but they are not all the same. Pretty sure they have different ratings. I'm using my BB Storm charger as a second option in the house and its rated at 5v 700mA. I read on this forum that the stock Bolt charger is 5v 1000mA but have not been able to verify that.

I would think you want to use a charger that is outputting 5v and I'm pretty sure the lower the mA the longer it will take to charge. I have an old generic car charger I used as a backup for my Storm and it was 500mA. It charged much slower then the actual RIM car charger.

Just realized I went from a Storm to a Thunderbolt, maybe my next phone will be a tornado or hurricane...

^^ that is correct, the ma rating will affect the speed at which the device chargers. But they all should be 5v
