    Greetings everyone,

I've been a massive Android fan ever since I saw the first commercial for the original Droid back in 2009. I've unfortunately been tied to a feature phone on my family's plan with AT&T since that time. Thankfully, that's about to change early next month when the two year contract expires.

It appears we'll be going with either Sprint or Verizon, not sure which one yet. Phones are also still up in the air, obviously. I would love something easily rootable with a strong developer community around it, as I'm a major gadget and computer geek (I'm majoring in Computer Science at college as we speak). The ROM and app development scenes are definitely something i can see myself getting into. :)

I look forward to learning all I can from this community (which seems awesome by the way!) and contributing where I can.

    Thanks!
    Quanta

    Welcome, Quanta!

There are so many awesome phones out there, with more being announced all the time. I'm sure you'll find an excellent phone.

Your username also implies an interest in physic, no? My hobby is reading about superstring theory (especially Brian Greene's The Elegant Universe), but I must admit my interest and fascination exceeds my understanding, LOL ;).

Anyway, welcome again and I hope to see some of your posts and contributions here on AF.

    Cheers!

Wow, those were some fast welcomes (faster than any forum I've been a member of, that's for sure)! Thanks a lot everyone!

And scary alien, I do have quite a fascination with physics, especially string theory and quantum mechanics, hence the username. I don't understand hardly any of it either, but it is mind-blowing to even dive into a little bit. :)

I'll be sure to check out that developer section as well (I"ve already become acquainted with most of the subforums). Something tells me you'll all be seeing some "which phone" threads coming up from me in the next month or so lol along with other questions. I'm excited to dive into it. :D

That article reminded me of a documentary I watched a while back with a similar experiment. The results would differ if the scientists were watching or not, it was crazy.

LOL...yep, that's exactly the type of cool stuff I like to read about (really, read, and re-read, and re-read yet again...:p) :).

Don't know why I never thought of this before, but I did a search of the Android Market...there's some apps for that, LOL:

    https://market.android.com/details?id=com.dodobirddevelopers.drinfoe.stringtheory&feature=search_result

    https://market.android.com/details?id=air.drmikey.stringtheory&feature=search_result

    https://market.android.com/details?id=mobile.visuals.mag.pulset&feature=search_result

    https://market.android.com/details?id=com.apklabs.android.schrodingerscat&feature=search_result

I only listed some free versions (I think)...

If you have the Kindle for Android app and are interested, Brian Greene's The Elegant Universe and The Fabric of the Cosmos are both available for download (don't remember the prices, but well-worth having...). I also have the paperback versions too :D...man, my true geekiness is showing ;).

    Cheers!

@scary alien Oh man, I'm going to *need* to install that Schroedinger's Cat app LOL. I've seen The Elegant Universe NOVA special a couple of times, crazy stuff. I'll have to pick up a copy of the paperback at some point. I enjoy reading some of Carl Sagan's stuff as well (The Demon Haunted World and Billions and Billions so far). Oh, and isn't our collective geekiness already showing? This is an Android forum after all. :p

@El Presidente Those signs are awesome lol.
