Hello all! I recently stumbled upon this forum (I think it was in a google ad on gmail... I can't remember), and thought it would be worth making an account on. There seems to be a lot of great topics here :). Do you think you guys can help me with something though?

I'm interested in an android phone (and have been since before it came out) yet it looks like my options are limitted to a G1... and, well, a G1. Now, don't get me wrong, the G1 is great but does anyone know of any other android phones that are comming out?

My current cell provider is verizon and to my understanding they have basically said "screw you" to google by not joining the open handset alliance. So it looks like I will have to switch if I want an android phone. My dad (who pays for my service) is unwilling to switch though because he gets a discount on verison from his work. But I wouldn't mind paying $25 dollars a month plus initial set up fees from T-mobile (which is the deal I found from clicking that link on this sites main page offering a G1 for under $100) so I'm not completely tied to verizon.

Oh, and for anyone thats currious, I belong to one other forum: http://laserpointerforums.com Its a great place to learn about lasers and build your own (Not like, cheasy keychain ones, but ones that light matches, pop balloons, etch plastic). I've made a few lasers myself and would gladly help anyone out with lasers if they want.

    Cheers,
    mmykle

  2. If you are truly considering buying a G1 you do not have to switch carriers... you can either buy a dev version which is unlocked and can be used anywhere or buy a locked phone and get the unlock key for it... this will allow you to have the G1 on your current carrier....

Wait so... which one of you is right? I'm gunna go with swizz that Verizon is not compatible with other phones because they don't use sim cards. I'm not sure if this is exactly why they aren't compatible, but regardless of the reason, I don't think their compatible with any other phone except Verizon phones... I hate verizon

Woot, go lasers! lol, let me know if you want some sites that sell diodes for CHEAP... like, really really cheap.

I live in mission hills, although I doubt you know where that is. It's next to hillcrest and oldtown. I've been to long beach a few times before, its cool up there. Thanks for the welcome!
