Help hello! New user to the droid family :)

Just out of interest, did you right click on Kies and run as Administrator?
Long shot I know but I have had a few issues with different program's without doing so.

This might sound really obvious, but did you use the 'Troubleshoot connection error' in Kies itself?

When I have issues connecting with a PC this works 100% of the time; I believe it simply re-downloads and installs the drivers for your phone.

yep tried that, one of the first things I done............ ........ The device is picked up in device manager but has a yellow triangle next to it...on the phone it comes up as connected MTP....

quick question Kies has drivers for my phone....IF i uninstall Kies and just install the drivers for the S2.......? Will this help but If i install kies after will the two drivers conflict with each other?

Are you trying to connect as MTP or USB mass storage. I think you don't actually need Kies to connect as USB mass storage. Just go into settings and go to the part where the icon for USB mass storage is. Tap on it and only after that connect the USB cable. Then tap the icon again. Oh... make sure the USB debugging mode is unchecked when doing this.

As for MTP, you need Kies (actually just the drivers)... and if it does work, it works. Else... it works for me to a certain extent so not sure I can help.

Try the USB storage mode again first.

One more thing I might ask you to try. Take it to a PC that has never seen Kies, set the phone to mass storage mode and plug it in. If the phone is recognized, then I think we can safely assume the problem lies with your PC. If it gives you the same trouble connecting, then I would guess it's the cable or the phone. At that point you can decide how to proceed ... either flashing or using a different sync app. I am assume the desire to connect to Kies is to update the firmware.

no, don't install kies. At least not until you determine if it can connect as storage.

Have you been using the same USB cable this whole time? Samsung phones are VERY fussy about cables. It might be time to try a different one. FWIW, the really cheap cables always are a problem with Samsung phones.

For Samsung phones, I always recommend an OEM cable. You can get one here: SAMSUNG Micro USB Data Cable

If multiple cables and multiple PC's failed to recognize the phone in any mode, but the phone is working fine otherwise, the only thing I can think of is that the phone's connector is somehow damaged.

hmm yeah....is there anyway I can transfer music wireless and quick...also root the phone without a cable? Thats the only two things I want to connect to pc lol...

You can use Kies Air or Airdroid. Either should work wirelesly to transfer files. As for rooting without the cable, I am not sure. Maybe someone else has an idea there.

im on gingerbread does that make a difference?
