I can't figure out where this is coming from, and can't find anything about it anywhere online. I'm not a sophisticated user and need help!

Yesterday, a star popped up on my task bar (rooted DINC). I pulled it down, it said "click here to win a gift card". It takes you to a website...I assume this is spyware, malware, or a virus of some kind. How did I get it and how doni get rid of it. I scanned with Lookout, and it says everything is ok. Can someone help??

It is possible an app you have installed is using the AirPush ads system, where ads are displayed as notifications. (As you can imagine, it's an extremely unpopular system).

Have you installed any new/updated apps recently? If you have, check out the market reviews for those apps - no doubt the culprit will be full of negative reviews about it.

Definitely an AirPush app installed. Good luck finding it. When you uninstall it, do so from the market so you can mark it as malicious and give it 1 star.

Go to market. Go to.my apps. They should list installed apps in order. Latest installed first. This should give you an idea what it could be. Check reviews

Go to market and search for "airpush" you will find an airpush detector which will uninstall the app that is causing it.

Did this...and "no installed AirPush apps were detected". Gonna try the next suggestion. But good to know!
