Acer has not yet released 3.1 update. If your a500 is unrooted, there should not be any problem to upgrade. For flash drive, android only support simple USB device now. U may need to unrooted yout a500 in order to maximize the capability of USB.

    Congratulations on your purchase.

Android 3.1 is suppose to be pushed out to Acer A500 sometime this month. However, there's a rumor that 3.1 has been delayed till August.

As far as the USB not sure why it's not working out of the box. 3.1 suppose allow USB support but mine works and I'm running 3.0. You can wait for 3.1 or take it back for another unit.

    Hi,

you have to install a file manager (e.g. Astro File Manager) from the market to access USB thumb drives on your tablet.

All thumb drives MUST be formatted FAT32. For older micro SD Cards / thumb drives that are formatted FAT or FAT16 will not be recognized. Larger Thumb drives (32GB and above) formatted with NTFS will not be recognized as well. Thumb drives with EXT OS partitions UNIX/Linux/Ubuntu will not be recognized as well. Hope this helps. Some thumb drives (e.g. SANDISK) mount mini applications when you plug them into the USB port (i.e. antivirus/security/password patches) these cause conflict as well.

All you have to do is to partition all your thumb drives to a single partition and format to FAT32.

    cheers :)
