Help Help! How do I keep the bottom four buttons lit for longer!!!

I cant seem to find a setting that will allow me to keep the bottom four buttons lit for longer (setting, home, return, and search). They dont stay lit and it drives me nuts trying to guess which one I am hitting!!! Anyone else frustrated with this? By the way, this is my ONLY complaint about this device. I am madly in love with it. Thanks.
