    Okay, so a popup kept coming up on my rooted droid x to update..so I did..took forever. When it was finished I no longer had root access. I read in another thread to go to z4root and try unrooting and then permanent root to re do the process...however, when I attempt to unroot, it force closes. I've uninstalled and reinstalled z4root..am using the current version, etc...any suggestions how I can obtain root access again? Thanks!

    There is not a root method that currently works on the newest version of Gingerbread. The only way to gain root would be to SBF back to Froyo (.340) and then to flash the pre-rooted two part update made by P3Droid. You can either get it thru the TBH app or over at the DROID X forum on My DROID world.

    Damnit. It didn't even occur to me that the root would mess up with an update..im somewhat phone illiterate. That sounds like a whole lot of hassel...do you think its worth it to go through that process or to just wait it out until there's a way to root the new software?

    I say go through the process.....It's a possibility that OTA GB may not get rooted.

    So let me make sure I understand this. I can SBF my wife's phone back to .340 and reroot it to flash another rom? After the update to GB she hates her phone again. LOL She loved Liberty but it does not support visual voice mail or voice commands so we want to try something else.

    Correct SBF then reroot then you're good2go. And she doesn't like GB? well its a big difference than liberty I'd tell her to take some time with it. It took a day or so for it to grow on me.

    It's not a question of preference, it's a matter of performance. She's back to getting a lot of the FC's and random rebooting that stopped once Liberty was loaded.
    Froyo=>hated phone due to poor performance
    Liberty=>loved phone because it actually worked with no errors
    GB=>back to hating phone
    Can't say I really blame her.

    Did she start GB with a fresh data wipe? I'm having no FC or rebooting on the OTA.

    If she liked Liberty on Froyo so much why not give her Liberty for Gingerbread? I would SBF back to .340, reroot with Z4, flash the two part update to get to .596, and then flash Liberty for Gingerbread.

    Does anyone know of a url or tutorial on how to do this step by step? I've never flashed anything or did a custom rom, etc etc. I'd definitely like to pimp my phone out though if at all possible.

    I went through the SBF process yesterday and outlined the steps in detail in this thread. If you have any questions, there are tons of people willing to help. :)
