You did what everyone did. You assumed 2.1 to 2.3 is an update that keeps everything.

It isn't.

Clear data.

Basically, you are suppose to remove all userdata from the SDCard before installing 2.3. You didn't...so there is stuff from old 2.1 that is confusing 2.3

Clear that data and that should do it.

i reformatted the sdcard and did a factory reset... everything runs perfectly now

This happened to me too.

The annoying part is that i was not prompted to do anything different when I did the update. It actually told me I would not lose any information!
