    lookout, new guy!

so, I'm eligible for an upgrade on the 10th, and this is the number one contender to be the next phone in my pocket. I've had my iphone 3g since the 3gs came out, and I'm more than ready to switch to Android. But I tend to get some bad buyer's remorse, and when I'm locked into a contract for 2 years, I don't want to settle for something less (like I did with the iphone).

I'm just a little concerned with this phone vs. the newer gen stuff, like the Atrix. Reading the review on the Optimus 2X, Engadget said that you would hardly utilize the second core, maybe only on games and hardcore video rendering. I don't do either of those, I tend to enjoy the simpler, pick-up-and-play games. So if you guys would mind reassuring a couple things I'm unsure about to solidify my decision:

    screen resolution
    single core Scorpion
    battery length
side loading, whether it can be done or not

    1. Download the Forums for Android™ app!

  2. well the supposedly great qHD screen on the atrix has been having some none pleasant reviews with colors and app recreation. The superamoled on samsungs has burn in and doesnt save battery so the SuperLCD doesnt look that bad huh?

Battery has been consistently getting 9-12 hours heavy use by many reviewers

the processor in the inspire is pulling 1976 quadrant scores bone stock

sideloading really not a big deal, use airplane mode or sideload wonder machine

    any questions again LOL ????:D

Screen will be a huge step up for your phone.
Single core- is JUST as the review said. (and me).
Battery length should be about on par with the average current smart phone
Side loading.... We are not sure. Probably yes for media and a big question mark for non-authorized apps. Most of the guys around dont bother with non-certified apps anyway but i hear what you are saying on wanting that feature (and agree). We will see.

I saw *somewhere that sideloading did indeed WORK, as of now at least. They also pointed out that this could change by launch day.

*I think it was a PocketNow video on YouTube...

    Here's my take on it.

First of all, none of us would get the outrageously low price of a measly $99.00 if we didn't sign a contract for two short years. Too much has been made over signing a contract.

I've been with AT&T for over a decade & experienced great customer service. Do you want to know why? When I call in I'm courteous, friendly, and never threaten to terminate. Stop & think. Those customer reps talk to nasty unhappy people all day long. So when someone is nice to them, they are so eager to work with you it's amazing.

I get a new phone every year just for that reason, and they always give me the upgrade price.

The display is a very good one.

The battery life on any large screen smartphone will never be like a dumb phone since they draw more power. So what? I've had all kinds of phones & battery life never varies that much from one to the other. Besides why not focus on the positives of this truly great model?

Want something faster, better, more fantastic? No problem wait five years and you'll find it.

Why sit around guessing what's next when you could be enjoying the great new Inspire?

I'm buying one without hesitation because I know there's no such thing as the perfect phone. Ever.

    Cheers :)

Lol, good to see you on both boards. Ok, I'm very excited now but since I'm only 17 so my dad has to go with me. He's going to be out of town when it comes out, so does anyone know if I could preorder it and pay and eveyhring before the 13th, and I go in and just pick it up and the SIM card?

If your Dad adds you as an "authorized user" then you can. It just basically means you can go in, do the upgrade, buy the phone, all with out him being there.

to do so, have him call customer service (1-800-331-0500) and press "0" 2 times when you start to hear the menu options. have your dad tell the person he wants you as an authorized user and done!

and if it makes him feel better, he can take you off when ever he wants

Oh man, that's awesome! I really had low hopes of it being possible haha.

Ok, hopefully I'll be joining you guys on the 13th

    Sounds great!

Now, one final tip for you.

The key to truly enjoying your new Android Smartphone is to remember it's not like an iPhone or a dumb phone or any other phone.

Android is a very good and unique operating system. If you want the best from it, that means you will need to make a commitment to yourself to learn about it. That means a bit of patience and a willingness to remember the HTC Inspire was designed by expert engineers that know exactly what they are doing.

All to often people on forums "act like experts" when in fact they have no clue. So, when you run up against a problem, just relax, and think.

Don't forget you can also call AT&T if you need help as that is usually faster than this forum for something that is urgent. Remember as a brand new unit we will all be learning ours as well.

Read everything you can between now and the time you get your phone.

    Cheers... :)
