I bought an X2 over a year ago already rooted and with CM 7.2 installed. It had android 2.2 initially, but I guess that OTA has brought it up to 2.3.7

I have been less than impressed with CM 7.2,but haven't run any other ROMs,stock or otherwise to compare it to.

The main issue for me is that the Wifi is very dodgy. And since I have limited data, wifi is greatly important to me.Half the time it just won't connect to a good signal. Many times it just won't recognize a signal at all, even when other devices confirm there are many signals available. You can mess around with all this, but the best bet is just to reboot. But that leads to problems sometimes too. Many times after a reboot, the phone can't find the phone or 3g signal.Sometimes the phone won't display battery life,it justs posts a question mark where the battery icon is.All this can be resolved with rebooting until the the problem fixes itself.I am tired of reboots and battery pulls.

I am hoping that 10.x is better.

Please walk me through the steps to upgrade to CM 10.I have backed up eveything already.

So is the first step going to be SBF back to 2.3.4?

When I got this phone (used,mb870 Verizon, now on Pg+) it was already rooted running CM 7.2,so maybe you are right,It could have been on 2.3.7 since I have had it.

Any advice about CM 10? I am really hoping that the wifi is improved.

I haven't used cm7 much, but don't remember any comments about cm10 having better wifi.
just make a nandroid in bsr, so if you don't like cm10, it will be easy to go back to cm7.

lots of links in my list
sd_shadow's [Collection] of Links for: Droid X2 (MB870)

    like
Install BSR and make a Nandroid backup

    MOTODX2_Bootstrap-CM7-signed.apk.

    and after cm10 is install

Prior to deciding to try and go to CM 10,I briefly read some of the posts on XDA,and I came away thinking that CM 10 could not be installed on top of CM7,that SBF 2.3.4 and clearing the cache was necessary.I think it was mentioned that CM10 could probably be installed over CM9.

Is it true that I can use bootstrap to go from 7.2 to 10?

    I am on CM 10 now.It didn't go well,but I am on it.

My problem now is restoring apps and data.I installed Titanium backup just now,and haven't been able to restore anything.I moved everything over to the SD card,I thought, but Titanium hasn't brought anything over yet.Checked unknown sources and a couple of re-boots.I see the Titanium file in File Manager, but cant tell if anything is in there.

I did multiple wipes during the rooting of the phone, but I still have all of my photos, can see them all in the gallery. So,the SD didn't get wiped.

I'll explain the problems I had with installing CM 10,but I am kind of wiped myself.

titanium can only restore apps, that were backed up by titanium
they will be in a folder, named titanium

Titanium may not see the folder automatically

    install titanium
    open titanium
    select the menu soft key
    Preferences>Backup folder location>Detect>whole device
    check the location you want.
    press soft return/backup button
    select use current folder

Yes.I knew I had the files I could see them from my computer when I synched to them via USB.I ended up fooling with Titanium and found the Backup folder location setting, and eventually got it to find the files, similar to what you describe above. The misleading thing in Titanium seems to be that Titanium must also consider the phone's internal storage to be SD also.Titanium listed the storage folder it was originally looking at as "SD 0" and my real SD card was called "SD 1" or something similar.

I was pleasantly surprised that Titanium also had saved my contacts,so I restored them from Titanium.

Now,the problems I had with flashing the phone to CM 10.
I had read at the thread in XDA where dragonzkiller said that CM 10 could be installed over CM 7,however I couldn't find any real evidence that anyone was really doing it that way.But I found that many people were SBF ing back to 2.3.4 then rooting, then installing CM 10.Tom Root Junky also has a Youtube video doing it this way,so I felt more comfortable going that way.

So,I followed along, downloaded what I needed.SBF'd,rooted, installed CM10 and GAPPS.I'm pretty slow and dense, but I got that done in probably an hour and a half.I have rooted only twice before. The problem was, that as I installed GAPPS,it installed in like 2 seconds on my phone. In Tom Root Junky's video,it took over 30 seconds.I took a look at the GAPPS file and the size of it was tiny.Somehow,in transferring the download from the computer to the phone,I guess I didn't get the entire file or something. When I booted CM 10,everything was fine, but none of the google related apps were there. From a brief internet search it seems that GAPPS cannot be installed after the fact,so I decided to SBF back to 2.3.4 and load everything again,(and a fresh new GAPPS download).

The fun started when I tried to root 2.3.4,I probably went through 15 attempts.I kept trying to load the "easy root" on the phone, and it would either load in one second and tell me it didn't recognize the file or go through the entire process and proclaim the phone was rooted, but I could not see Superuser on my phone.I tried wiping the phone multiple times, etc, etc and still could not get it.I could be mistaken, because I did a combination of things, but the problems I had were with the download link that Tom Root Junky had on Youtube. When I tried a different download of the easyroot,it worked and rooted the phone and Superuser was there. But it took several hours to get there.

After that I just followed along with Tom Root Junky's video, this time making sure that the GAPPS file was correct and of a significant size.CM 10 booted up fine and I restored backups the next day (first time doing that). My texts, phone history and most of MMS seems to be in place.I might play with the MMS a little more to see if I can completely get that to normal.I was surprised at how much Titanium had backed up,I thought it was mostly for apps.I also used "SMS backup & restore".

So far CM 10 looks very good. The wifi on it seems fine so far.I'll probably just slowly discover things on the Rom just with regular use as I go.

    I use PetesMotorolaRootTools_v1.07.zip to root the DX2 on 2.3.4
not sure which rooting video you watched, tomsgt has several, and uses the word "easy" ,
did you used this file "DROID 3 easy root script v7.zip"?
if so should work, but it is an older version.

one common problem is drivers not installing correctly.
see my installing drivers/ driver errors

any file you download sbf, rom, gapps... the md5 checksum should be verified
see Verify that your download is complete with MD5/SHA-1 Hash Checksums

most devs will post the md5 with the rom link

Thanks for the tip about the checksum. When trying to find all these required downloads some of the links don't work,or the links are old and I wondered what I was downloading a few times.

For rooting the X2,I used "DROID 3 easy root script v7.zip".The link in Tom Root Junky's video included drivers.I ended up successfully rooting with a file of "DROID 3 easy root script v7.zip" that had NO drivers (I opened both folders to see why the file sizes differed, the successful one did not include drivers).I'm not even sure where I found it,I just googled DROID 3 easy root script v7.zip and downloaded something. At that point I was just grasping at straws trying to get something to work.

I had already separately downloaded Motorola drivers, updated them etc,not sure why drivers would be included in the file.

My next little project will be installing bootstrap on there.
