    Hi,
I want to buy an android tablet (had a non3g ipad2 and sold it).
The first obvious choice is the galaxy 10.1 BUT it is not new any more so I went on and looked at the quad-core transformer prime but then again I was disappointed by its gps problem and it having no 3g(which is a biggie)

Could you point me to a better android tablet than the 10.1
I know it is a weird question considering it is posted in this tablets sub-forum but if anyone knows if a better tablet exists, it should be you.

To be honest, in my opinion and needs, there isn't a better tablet than the Tab 10.1 right now. The ASUS Prime is faster and has more power, but I don't think it's really needed with Android v4.x ICS coming. The Tab is thin, light, fast, and has good features. I originally bought the first ASUS Transformer last summer thinking that all those ports would be useful, but in reality I never used them more than once - I just connected the Transformer to my PC to transfer media to/from the device. I do the same with my Samsung Tab.

There are four big advantages of the Samsung over the ASUS for me though:

1 - 3G wireless capability so it always has a connection, not just WiFi. Using tethering with the ASUS would kill my phone battery rather quickly.

2 - The Tab is light and thin, with excellent battery life. I charge it every 36-48 hours depending on usage. The ASUS would need topping up every day, even with the Dock battery connected.

3 - The Tab has a simple inexpensive gel case available to help protect it - no need for a full folio case or similar which I don't want.

4 - Gorilla Glass on the Tab is VERY easy to wipe clean - the ASUS would get finger smudges on the screen and take a lot of rubbing to clean - the Tab I can literally wipe with my sleeve once or twice and it's clean.

I'm much happier with the Tab over the Transformer.

Galaxy Tab 10.1 or wait for something new. I think there should be some new products soon as the Tab is almost 1 year old now.

Indeed these are some of the features that makes me want the tab.

Like above, I've got no problem with the tab.
I just want to know if there is a new one coming soon so i could wait or just buy it.

We do not know anything about new Tabs coming out as nothing has been announced yet.

Buy the Tab, use it and enjoy. With time new tablets will be released and when you feel you need o upgrade you will get something newer. For now SGT10.1 is the best device overall.

I'm also looking to buy my 1st tablet and was waiting for the Transformer Prime, but that seems to have some issues and the "TF700T" is not due out until Q2-12' which is longer than I want to wait. Having said that, I've narrowed my choices down to 2, the Asus Eee Transformer 32gb which I can get new for $400 or the Galaxy 32gb 10.1 Tab which I can get refurbished by Samsung at $450. Both seem to have +s & -s. I'd love to here any additional thoughts on these 2 as well as buying a Samsung-refurbished unit...

And then a new chipset will be revealed and a slew of new tablets. By the time you decide to buy one of them, there will be something new coming out. You will find yourself in this position all the time. There will always be something new on the market worth waiting for. Buy now, do not look back and in a year or two buy something that will really be an upgrade to the current device.

You are correct although there is a difference.
    2 month isn't a long time.
That's like wanting to buy a car and going for a BMW '11 when you are couple of month away from getting a '12 instead for the same price (example ofc)
But once it is available..you wouldn't wait for the '13 a whole year..would you? unless it is EXTREMELY better and yet about the same price.

Yeah, and ASUS was so timely with the release of the original prime  I certainly wouldn't count on a March release. I had one on order, canceled the day after ICS was pushed to it. It obviously didn't fix the know issues and seems to do some cause more issues to some (likely because it was rushed). I bought the SGT 10.1 on Monday, its thinner and lighter than the older transformer which is what sold me on it. Better accessories too. I bought the SGP capsule TPU case for it that comes with one of their screen protectors, logitech bluetooth keyboard/mouse, neoprene case with handle and a purple 360 case off ebay (I'm kind of an accessory whore:eek:)Also, it should be getting an update to ICS too. I also would like the newest (better build?) of the prime when it comes out, but I didn't want to wait. Before I bought it, I did tell my husband that I would possibly sell it once I want to upgrade, maybe to the new asus. But I'm very satisfied with it so far. Just rooted today, will eventually put a rom on it and see where it goes from there!
    Good luck with your decision!

The Galaxy Tab is following the tradition of the Galaxy line of products that it is a very elegant mobile device. When I carry it around, I don't feel like a geek. ;) Samsung seems to be the only Android vendor that understands the important of elegance on a mobile device. And they don't market their products like they are some sort of robots or from alien planets which I think is stupid. I won't buy any other vendor's product but the Galaxy products.

In my humble opinion, a mobile device is for you to use anywhere any place. Therefore, I bought the 4G variant of the Galaxy Tab. To me, WiFi variant is really not putting the Tab to its full power. And I never use public WiFi because it is not safe. It is very easy to get hacked when you are on a public WiFi network.

Samsung is going to introduce the Galaxy Tab 11.6 at Mobile World Congress in February. It has slightly larger form factor and thinner bezel to give you the largest screen on the market with 2560 x 1600 resolution. It has a dual-core Exynos 5250 CPU clocked at 2GHz. And it runs ICS operating system. It will beat any tablet from Apple, ASUS or any other vendor.

    Hope this helps.
