What are you trying? You should really just copy the apk file (and odex if there is one) straight into /system/app

You cannot just copy those files to that directory. If you tried that you would get some error like permission denied if you tried it with adb. And i just tried to copy an apk file from my sdcard using astro to the /system/app directory and you can't.

Isn't that just because /system is mounted read-only by default? It should work if you remount it read-write.

    Yes. :)

One way to do that is to boot into recovery, then open an adb shell and you can /mount.

    Or....
Open a terminal via either adb shell or an emulator then

    su
    mount -o remount,rw /dev/block/mtdblock4 /system
    mv /sdcard/YOURAPKFILE /system/app

Yes. If you you have Root Explorer that's probably the easiest way. But I think you'll have to move them. Root Explorer's copy always renamed the files for me.

Also, it's the reverse order from what you posted. Mount /system r+w in root explorer first, then move the files, then remount it ro when you're done.

From 'adb shell' doing the following:

    su
    mount -o remount,rw /dev/block/mtdblock4 /system
    mv /sdcard/YOURAPKFILE /system/app/

is really the simplest option. Good call, savoxis.

    $ su
    su
    # mount -o remount,rw /dev/block/mtdblock4 /system
    mount -o remount,rw /dev/block/mtdblock4 /system
    # mv /sdcard/LG_Home.apk /system/app/

    Oops!

    Replace that line with this:

    cat /sdcard/LG_Home.apk > /system/app/LG_Home.apk
