Hi there,

I'm really desperate for some help. bit of an odd situation.

In august last year my mum committed suicide, I have recently got her things back and I am trying to access the data on her phone. It is a Samsung Galaxy Note 2, but the problem I'm having is it has a broken screen, also does not have USB Debugging switched on.

The police claimed they needed all her electricals to check for evidence, which is why they needed to keep it for nearly 4 months, however I dont believe they have in fact even checked the phone.

I really want to be able to access the text messages, so i can see if there was any indication prior to her death.

Please help if you can

Thank you

Milo

Hi Slug, thanks for your reply. I was hoping possibly there would be some way of getting to it from the recovery mode when you switch on with the volume button held down, then possibly using the command prompt to copy the data across, or maybe just switch usb debugging on from there? I don't know, just feels like it should be possible!!

It's probably a long shot (really long shot) and would probably require some sort of court order, but there may be a very tiny chance of getting transcripts from the carrier. Like I said, I don't think it's easy to get these, but I'm not sure in which circumstances they would allow it.

Unfortunately you cannot enable usb debugging except in the developer settings menu. This is for security reasons. If anyone could enable usb debugging from a device they can't access, there would be no point in securing any device.

Though, I did just have a thought, but I'm not a Samsung guy, myself. Can the OP potentially use Samsung Kies to backup text messages, etc. and then restore them to another Note 2? I've not used the software before so I don't know how extensive it is or whether or not touch screen interaction is required as part of the setup process??

Hi, yes, Kies did it, it was the first thing I tried, the kies it tells you to download then you have to download something to the phone. But if you use kies3 then you can do it. Just need to access the WhatsApp stuff now, and i might have to fix screen for that. thanks for everyones help :)
