I know the android community generally hates questions asking for a 'best rom', as each is generally good in it's own way, but I'm looking for a slightly more specific ROM. I have full root, S-OFF, etc. I've ran CM7 and Android Revolution, but both don't have a few things I'm looking for. I haven't been able to find any other rom that matches a few criteria.

I'm looking for a daily driver rom that runs any version of HTC Sense, but has an emphasis on speed (amount of RAM and CPU usage) and battery life. I'm okay with minimalism, things barely running. I mostly use Go launcher anyways, which is why I want the ROM to be light. While most custom ROMs I've found match my second specification, I can't find many that are really light weight, like CM7 lightness (or at least close to it).

I'm using Android Revolution right now, which is very pretty and nice, but uses just a bit too much RAM (around 480mb on standby). CPU is okay, we have overclock for that :)

I know Sense isn't the best way to go for lightness but I like it for the apps that come with it.

    Thanks to everyone :)

I use CoreDroid, its pretty slick and highly customizable. At this point avoid any ICS roms because they are pretty buggy.

You can custom install revolution to make it much lighter. I personally really like absolution 3.7. its not sense but there are so many goodies cooked in that it has been my rom of choice for a long time. It is light, fast and stable as a rock.

appreciate the info. I am activating my inspire today and I'm sure not too far in the future I'll be thinking about root & rom. The ace hack kit seems like the way to go for rooting right? I am considering trying it with the unbuto method.

Thanks for the help guys. I went on a ROM binge this week and I've been going through 1 or 2 roms a day lol.

Since I know what ROMs I want or like now, I guess this thread is irrevelant. In that case, I'll just go OT and give a breakdown of the ROMs I tried in case anyone is interested :)

Android Revolution: Pretty much stock, not many tweaks, bloated, but you can use ROM cleaner. Sense 3.5/7.0.4 is pretty slow, but you get sense 3.5. Sense 3.0/6.3.3 is less bloated but doesn't have sense 3.5 wonders. It's not my favorite, but it's stable as a rock. Everything works 100% fine, no glitches at all. I'd say it's a good idea to just have a backup of this ROM with all your apps+ data installed in case you need to restore a stable rom.

Redemption [The Family]- formerly the collective. Tons of tweaks and customization. Some FC's, and video cam doesn't work, but mostly stable. But, it's ICS. Currently it's the only ROM that I keep coming back too. Battery isn't anything special, but whatever. I really, really like this one as a daily driver.

CM7.1- very stable, no Sense of course. Semi amazing battery- display uses around 7-8% an hour, in other words amazing (most Sense ROMS get you 15% an hour when fully tweaked). However, I had around 10% battery use an hour for cell radio (with juice defender), and another 7-8% of android system. So if you use your phone all the time, than CM7 is very battery efficient. If you're on standby more often than your using it, then you may have a problem. I recommend this for first ROM, since CM7 includes a lot of root features in the ROM. Screenshots, overclock, etc are all made into the rom. For anyone who's new to root, they might prefer this because you don't have to install 3rd party screen shot tools, or buy Set CPU. Nifty.

RcMix Energized v 4.0- Awesome ROM. Lots of awesome tweaks (rcmix tweaks), pretty decent battery life, around 200mb free when not in use (with A. Rev. you have around 100-50), looks pretty cool. However, it was really glitchy on my phone. Lots of random FC's and my phone randomly rebooted a lot. Don't let this stop you though, I think I was the only one who had this issue. Either way, I definitely recommend you to check this out.

Runny Xtreme Surprise- RcMix Energized, but with Sense 4 features (keyboard, navbar, and a few others). I also had random FC's on the same apps for this one. BTW: there's a link to a Sense 4 look a like skin for sense 3.5 (possibly 3.0). Definitely recommend you to download that, plenty of eye candy.

Ginger Sense 4- This is an interesting one. It uses HTC sense 3.5, but it's been modded so much that it uses a different launcher than the Sense one. This means you can't use Sense widgets, but all the apps are there (read as, I still get awesome HTC Sense camera). It's pretty light, around the same as RcMix. It's modded to look like Sense 4. I personally recommend using Runny Xtreme Surprise.

MIUI- It's ICS, but really heavily modified. You might not even recognize it. It's designed to emulate IOS. For those who like the look of IOS, but don't like it's limitations, I recommend this. I personally didn't like this ROM at all, but that's just me.

Too try: I'm downloading Coredroid right now, it sounds pretty similar to RcMix, but I'm hoping it'll solve my FC problems.

I want to try out Blackout ICS- it's sense 3.6 and ICS. The only issue is that Camera isn't working. In my case, camera is the only reason I can deal with HTC Sense's bloat. So until it's fixed.....

Ice Sense V- HTC sense 4.0 and ICS. Nice combo, still glitchy, but the least of all Sense 4/ICS ROMs.

TL;DR, get Redemption and enjoy ICS. If you want something more stable but slow, get Android Revolution. If you don't mind troubleshooting a little, get RCMix.

not true,if you like AOSP. i havent experimented with sense roms, but if youre not running the sense launcher and widgets anyway, give this one a try:
    [ROM]01-06-2012 | IceColdSandwich - 8.0 - AOKP | SoB EDITION - xda-developers

yes i realize its a desire hd rom.

make sure your inspire is s-off,and superCIDed.

-run this RUU(to get the recomended radio and compatible firmware):
    Shipped ROMs

-reinstall clockwork as a PD98IMG cwm-

-flash Goo.im Downloads - Browsing IceCold

its super smooth, extremly fluid, and extremely functional. only bugs listed are mms for some(working fine for me) and video camera(use video illusion from the market instead)
