All my internal memory has almost gone, most of it is being used by facebook (40MB).

I have a feeling that this is due to facebook pictures being pulled onto my phone using 'facebook sync' app. (350 contacts, and somehow 900 pictures).

I have disabled all my facebook contacts by unsyncing it, but it does not delete the data.

If i backup all my contacts & apps/settings and do a factory reset will this solve the issue?

You don't need to do a factory reset, just go to Settings -> Applications -> Manage applications -> Facebook -> Delete data.

The options that are available are, uninstall updates and force stop.

There is an option to clear data under facebook for htc sense, but thats only 600kb. It's the other main facebook application that has 40MB of data

40MB? The whole app WITH updates is 5.95MB, just curious what could have taken up 40MB of precious space?
