Help with Droid

I live in a remote area and recently purchased a remote access device. It worked with my Droid 3 for a few weeks, then has stopped working. Is it the phone, wireless internet, or the remote device?? Also, I have all 5 bars on my phone, but as soon as I dial, the bars disappear. Any help or ideas would be appreciated.
