Please help a computer/tech idiot. Why does my inspire have the H on the top screen sometimes, and then recently it has the E up there instead. From what I gather I understand the H stands for HSPA an the E stands for EDGE. Whats the difference, and does it affect my data? Please help this moron out, and ease my head.:)

Its ok. Edge is slower, you can surf the web with it, but too slow for streaming video, without constant buffering. I swear I saw g one time though, no clue what that is.

That's your data connection. Edge is 2g which is pretty slow data speeds. And when you get that you must be in a low coverage area. You are also correct about the HSPA. That means you are connected to 4g. So the H is ideal for getting the fastest speeds.

heres how it goes, there is G, slowest data connection out there, then there is 2g(E)its ok its enough to load webpages, streaming videos or music just wont happen, 3g its pretty good, can stream music and videos load webpages pretty fast,4g(H) is as fast as it gets from att, load webpages extremely fast, stream music and videos with no problem barely any buffering.

    H is HSPA, 3G is... 3G or UMTS I believe. E is EDGE, and G is GPRS. Let me make this a little more user friendly. H = 4G tower connection. 3G = 3G tower connection. E = 2G tower connection. G = 1G tower connection.

I have H+ with a checkmark under it. Is that 4G?

Yes, but that means that there is a 4G tower available, but not connected. If you see an up arrow, you can only upload stuff, if you see a down arrow, you can only download stuff, if you see both, then you can do both. Something I had trouble with was Juice Defender turning off my data at certain times. If you have any power management apps, turn off the feature that allows them to turn off data.

I believe the phone defaults to wireless when it's available.
