Notice "Device now switches effectively from 1x mode to 3G." It makes sense that this alone would improve battery life since the phone is no longer constantly looking for 3G.

Did the manual update and I noticed that the phone is little bit more snappier. Does anyone else notice this or is it just me?

As I mentioned earlier, prior to the update, apparently the phone was constantly searching for 3G while stuck on 1X. This fix alone would free the phone to appear quicker than before and would seemingly add battery life. Remember, from what I think I know, this processor in the Eris can only do so much at one time. Any fix to make it faster is fine with me for now.

REPOST. :p

LOL.

Still waiting for my upgrade. NOt willing to do it manually and have to re-do everything on the phone for the second time in a week.

i just got my droid eris yesterday, heard about this update from my girlfriend who got it. will it prompt me as to when i can get the update on the phone? i won't miss the update will i?

I got a notification for two updates last night. My battery was about to die so I turned off my phone and charged it overnight. This morning I don't see the notifications for the updates when I turned it back on.:eek::eek: What the heck? I don't know maybe they were notificaitons for something else. I didn't really look at it closely before I shut the phone off.

Go to Market > My Downloads. It "should" be listed there (I'm not sure since I haven't gotten the update yet).

Figured it out. My update notifications must have been for ASTRO file manager & ShopSavvy. When I looked at My Downloads it said those two apps had updates. I guess I didn't get a notication for the Eris Update yet.

You are correct sir a full upgrade does benifit instead of the just the OTA. Battery Life still blows though.

Isn't that because the manual update removes all the user data and apps thus making it like a clean install of Windows?

Well I am doing the OTA update right now. IS there away to backup all my data and apps if I decide to do a manual install later and then reimport everything with out having to reconfigure all my settings?? How do I do a manual install?

Thanks

I did a manual update on Thurday night. I am just noticing that my battery life is slightly improved. I am going to drain and recharge a few times, but the switching from 1ev to 3g was rediculous while away from home. I have noticed it is stable now.

I got mine last night around 1:00 AM EST. It was a pop-up on the screen, not a regular notification. Took about 10 mins or so to finish. Kinda difficult to get used to the new unlock swipe :(

Battery seems more accurate now though. I've been unplugged for about an hour, and i'm at 96%. Normally I'd be at like 80% (but then it would take forever to go down from there).

Which app are you using to get your battery status as a %?

Got mine last night as well. Can't say anything about improved battery life yet, WAY overslept this morning, so my phone's only been off the charger for about three hours.

Will say I appreciate the new, more "specific" unlock swipe... I know some others find it inconvenient, but the "swipe anywhere on the screen to unlock" thing was making my phone pocket-dial constantly, and I really hated using that secondary lock thing (especially because I'd still regularly take my phone out of my pocket to find it attempting to make an emergency call to a random number my fingers/thigh had unwittingly entered). This unlock still isn't as good as the iPhone's, or Android 2.whatever, but in my opinion it's a huge improvement.

There are still a bunch of minor issues that I know or have heard are fixed in 2.(?), so I'm holding out hope, but honestly, aside from stopping my phone from trying to call from my pocket and what seems like a slight improvement in the overall reaction time of the phone, I haven't noticed much. I realize that this update was never supposed to be a magic bullet and I'm not complaining, I guess just saying that those of you waiting breathlessly for your update to arrive, you might want to find something else to occupy your time so you're not too disappointed when it finally does arrive :)

Not sure if you found this already. Tap on home, menu, settings, about phone, and system updates. The update prompt will now show up. If the update is available to you, and you have not yet updated.

I think I also read that the prompt should reappear pretty frequently until you actually update.

It also seems that the unlock screen is a bit different. You used to be able to start the drag from anywhere downward to unlock it. Now, you need to make sure that you start near the bar at the bottom. I couldn't find any other differences.

I was looking for facebook contacts integration and voice navigation. Am I missing something?

Yes. You are missing that those upgrades don't come until we get 2.0 (2.1). These were minor tweaks. And I personally don't find that the unlock swipe is all that different for me but of course I usually started on the gray bar anyways.

Oh, thanks. I was hoping that this was the 2.0 update. I have the Moto and my wife has the HTC. The voice navigation was the first thing I looked for on her phone after the update. Guess she'll be waiting a bit longer.

I recieved my update at 1:30 this morning and the only changes that I have seen is the battery life finally lasted over night. I checked the awake percent and it said 3%. Has anyone else actually seen the changes?
