Here is the chat transcript that I just had with a Sprint rep on their website. Not trying to start any new rumors or anything, just throwing this out there.

I love how he had to check your account like it won't be the same date for everyone!! Cracks me up that they never listen to the question, and that goes for all tech support I've ever used.

I seriously doubt anyone at Sprint has decided on an official date, especially considering the amount of bugs seen in the Hero 2.1 leaked rom, which is supposed to be out about the same time.

This is confirmed by several posts implying that it will be ready soon, as long as there aren't any more major issues.

There may be an official deadline, but a release date may not exist yet. Software development is never an exact science.

I just smooched some serious butt at the repair center store in Lynnwood, WA and they confirmed they DO NOT have a release date. They will be the first store in my area to have the update and they <repeat> DO NOT have a date yet.

They did say that they are gearing up for the Hero update on the 9th, but they have not received an actual launch package yet. I think that means the software and cables, but I don't know for sure.

They expected the Moment to get the update about 2 weeks after the Hero's update to allow them to have time to get through the first push and get the OTW up for the Hero before having to deal with the Moment's update.

of course the moment would be last, they should throw it OTW

I would think the hero sold a little better because its more "pretty"

Welll still another two weeks after nonetheless :p

I know at my local sprint store they were pushing the hero over the moment... Reps were always telling people that to get the Hero as they are seeing way too many returns with the Moment, the hero has a better camera, faster processor, etc etc.

In fact when I went in to exchange my Hero with the moment they were trying to talk me out of it.

Interesting. When I went to purchase a Hero the guy said "take a look at the Moment, its the same as the hero only with a keyboard!" That was prolly before all of the returns.

Yeah, who knows, this was long before the CL14 update so I'm sure the store was probably seeing a higher rate of returns at the time.

Anyways, I apologize if this has been mentioned before, but I was just reading through Sprint's community forums and one of the Sprint employees on there chimed in and said that (at least for the Hero) that the update was not coming out on the 9th.

Same here. We got our phones in January and they tried to get my wife to get a Hero instead of the Moment, saying a bunch of Moments were coming back due to poor battery life.

1- The stores get zero early notice on things like this. The repair centers I checked with early the day CL14 was released didn't know about it till I asked and they checked their internal communications. There were many similar reports here. Apparently, communications are not Sprints strong points :eek:.

2- The Hero's leaked 2.1 problems have nothing to do with the official release. It's not even based off code meant for the Hero.

3- I for one will be seriously pissed off if we have to wait 2 weeks after the Hero. This is a "with Google" phone and by definition should be much easier to update than the sense enhanced Hero. A couple of days I can accept. A couple of weeks? NO NO NO!

It's been repeated here over and over but nothing that any of the phone company's (at&t, Verizon, Tmobile, Sprint, etc) reps say about release dates should be taken seriously. 99% don't know anything. They'll tell you what you want to hear, or the water cooler dirt or just make it up for the fun of it, but it's worthless and makes finding the 1% who do know almost impossible. There's nothing wrong with playing around with the release rumors, just don't take them seriously unless you enjoy frustration.
