please see this topic for reference. http://androidforums.com/sprint-htc-hero/14676-plastic-chrome-trim-cracked.html yeah my crack on my phone finally went all the way through near my usb port. so... i do have a insurance. I was wondering should i just go claim the insurance but i'm worried that if i get a new phone then it will just get a crack as well. Should i just go ahead a use a drop of super glue to hold it together? any advice on how to do it? another question... i use sprint PAM insurance. if i try to repair it but later i want to claim the insurance can i do that or will they refuse just because i tried to "repair" it? What's your thought on that?
I got the crack as well. It really doesn't justify a $100 deductable for the insurance. If you are persistent, CS might issue you a refurb....but as you said it could happen again or the refurb/new phone might have additional troubles that yours does not have. If you choose to repair....I found that the best way to do so without making a mess is to put a drop of super glue on the tip of a toothpic and carefully rub the edge of the broken trim, then apply pressure with a small screw driver or your fingernail. Worked great for me with minimal residue is almost invisible.
let me get this right. while one side of the crack is popped up i apply the glue to the edge and then press it down and hold while it dries? also what brand of superglue do you use? and does it fix the crack like forever or would i have to apply it from time to time?
exactly...apply to popped up edge. I used Loctite brand super glue gel. cant promise it will last forever but so good so far for me
Wooooo... repairs at Sprint now cost? The $100 should be only when lost or having no phone to swap... a cracked housing is defective equipment in my book and should bear no burden on my part. That is crazY... but Sprint washes their hand and says the insurance is a separate company which is bull... anyway, just my opinion.
