I'm planning on upgrading to the Epic, but I LOVE the trackball on my Hero, any ex-Hero users want to let me know how it is without a trackball??

I really like the trackball on the Hero and feel I'd miss the functionality and ease of it a lot...

There is a keypad with arrow keys. That has fixed my need for the trackball.

I had the Hero a few months ago and never touched the track ball, but the screen on the Epic is big enough for you to point with your finger where you want the cursor to go.
