Hello Kevin, it has been about 4 months since I purchased my Inc. and I love it. Welcome to the forums and get that bad boy rooted already!!!!!!
I don't know if manually installing Froyo counts as getting it rooted or not?
No it does not, but it is the first step!
If you want to root it, follow this AWESOME guide here. I did it and it worked great for me.
If you DO root your phone, make absolutely certain you read over and understand the steps BEFORE you do anything. Every step is critical that you follow.

Thank you for that info. I am still a newbie at this android thing as I forgot to mention that this is not only my first Android phone but it is also my first Smart phone as well! I used to buy only the cheap phones that you could not upgrade due to my budget! Verizon recently had a buy one Motorola Droid Smart Phone at $149.99 get one free sale that was 2 good to pass up because it did not require a mail in rebate! As a result I will hold off on rooting my Droid until I am better acquainted with all its features that I did not have before!
