Now I'm not sure what your stock messaging app is like but if you download Chomp SMS from the market, you can attach a picture to your text without it being a slide.

SMS works with a single text box, whereas MMS works with slides, with each slide holding either 1 picture, 1 video, or text.

Your question of sending a picture by text (SMS) is impossible as SMS is text only. If you send yourself a picture, you'll see that when received, it looks a lot better than when you compose an MMS
