    Hi people,
I'm just getting into customisation of my ageing Android phones so that I can give them a new lease of life. I'm hoping to learn enough to get it less wrong that I would otherwise! I quite especially don't want to lose all my data! :D so I'm looking into various backup features prior to rooting this HTC Wildfire S.

OK, I'm making good progress: I've unlocked the HTC bootloader, installed ClockworkMod Recovery, rooted it, added SuperUser and Titanium Backup, backed up the stock HTC ROM, installed cyanogenmod 7 and got most things working again. Some issues with the camera app failing to connect to the camera - seems to be an ongoing issue with some devices.

Amazing how everything pretty much works as good as or better than the HTC builds.

Hey there and welcome to Android Forums. :)

Unfortunately with some CM builds, the camera is unoperable until the built progresses further.

If we can assist you with anything, don't hesitate to ask. :)
