Help Hiding Search Bar

I now have Android 7.1 on my Nexus 5x, but why can't I hide the search bar on the home screen? I thought that was a new feature?

It's locked on there I'm afraid. Some phones allow you to move/remove them or don't have them at all. What you need to do is use a different launcher, such as Nova Launcher which will allow you to have a custom home page without the search bar.

Your Nexus will use the Google launcher by default which basically controls how your home pages looks and feels. Do a search about launchers first to see if they are for you or not.

Do you mean that long rectangle or the new Google pill?
