So, here's my issue. A search came up with nothing.

I've enjoyed my Ally for about a week now have had the pleasure of discovering the nuances. One thing is bugging me, and hopefully someone can help to address the issue.

While writing a text or e-mail message, using the physical keys, pressing "e" or any other button will drop you out of the application that you are in and open that short cut. For example, opening the keyboard and typing the word "page" will drop you out of your browser and open your e-mail function as soon as you hit the "e" button. This wasn't occurring before, but apparently something happened in the past few days to turn this on. When examining the shortcut/hot button settings, you can change/add shortcut keys but not disable them.

I'm not the biggest fan of using the screen keyboard, so if anyone has trouble or experience with the problem that may help me reclaim my letters, it would be appreciated!

you can replicate the problem by holding your hard-search-button and hitting the target-letter (in this case, "e")

Either your search- key is stuck or sticking or somehow you're getting structural/motherboard flexing or something equally odd involving search being triggered by pressure on or around "e".

Test = try setting application shortcuts for the letters around "e" (w s d f r) tyen seeing if theytrigger the same way.

An extremely common occurance is that a spill (however tiny) of soda can foul a key. There are ways to clean keyboards, but I have no clue how to safely open and disassembl then perfectly reassemble an Ally (presumably torx screws inside the battery compartment)) ... the dismounting and remounting of board-bridging cables might require simple but specialized clamps, grips or waldoes)

Marcus531's response sounds the most reasonable. Since you're under warranty and more than likely in your 30 day window, get Verizon to sort that out for you.

I've had my phone for about 3 days and I am having the exact same issue. If I hit E it opens the email, C opened contact list, and L opened the calendar. Finally had to reboot it to get it to stop.

I having the exact same issue as well. Sometimes it happens, sometimes not. There seems to be no rhyme or reason. Is there some functionality that makes hotkeys sticky that maybe we're accidently activating? Really really irritating.

hitting the magnifying glass button does not work. all it does is pops up the search bar at the top of the screen.

I had an identical problem about 5 days after I got the phone. What worked for me was simply restarting the phone.

After you hit the magnifying glass the search bar will come up. Then use the return key to remove the search bar from the screen.

landry0405 thanks for the fix, this works on my droid 2 global perfectly by tapping the search button on the keyboard, do you have any idea what causes this?
