Help Hotspot problems on S2

I have a stock Boost S2 with Jelly bean and I pay for wireless hotspot. My problem is when I turn on WiFi hot spot, it disables my 3g data. I have a 3g icon and working coverage, but as soon as I turn on hot spot, the 3g icon disappears and neither my phone nor any device connected to it has internet connectivity. It works fine with 4g, but there is no 4g where I am at currently. Any ideas?

Have you tried manually turning 3g back on? in settings/network/mobile networks?
