You will need a card that supports multiple speakers, I use a mobo with onboard sound that allows 4 speakers and a sub-woofer.
Look around they come in several configurations for plugging in.

A headphone splitter adapter/cable should work out for what you're asking. Something like this one:

I have a similar one plugged into my computer's audio-out port so I can just alternate listening to headphones or some speakers without having to switch the plugs from one or the other.
