I would like to know how to attach a data file to an sms. When I create an sms and go to attach I get several options for pictures videos and audio. What about other files? Would be nice to send an apk file of a cool app directly to a friends phone for installation.

I also tried to send by holding on the desired file and selecting share but that only gave me email delivery options.

I'm open to 3rd party software to solve this problem.

I know of no sms app that can do this. One off the send options for a file included GoSMS. It takes you to a SMS creation page like when sending a picture, but doesn't attach the file. For giggles, I tried tricking GoSMS by renaming an apk ".jpg" but got a resize error when sending. Why not simply use email for this? It would seem to me that anyone that could use a apk would also have at least a gmail account.

Email is the only way I know to do it.

There is a new software called Tmail.
It allows you to attach any kind of file to an SMS message.

Look for Tmail (trial) in the Android market
